I'll be frugally when it comes to my bedlinder. Not the cooling of my engine.
He said frugal, not cheap as in junk. Big difference. It is your money to waste.

you can build your own kit for under 150 if you shop frugally
x2!!!! $130 total for my setup!!!! i dont have anything against troyer, but he charges quite a bit for something you can build your own for 1/3 the price.

I said Frugal, not cheap or junk. Big difference. I'll sleep easier knowing I didn't cut corners on the cooling of my truck. thats just me. I do think however to have members on the forum telling the average truck guy he came piece together a Efan kit for 100 bucks and have no problems is misleading. Not only misleading but flat out false in some instances. Raptor(Technical Article Contributor) stated he can do it for $100. Then you read his next thread and his truck is over heating. He thinks he may need another fan. He has to run the heat to get his $100 fan set up to run.
Patman has done it, which is a good thing. I do not believe that this is the norm though. Patman seems to have above average knowledge about his F150 and the works of it.
If it is the normal then why is a site sponsor charger x4 times that?
It is my money, correct. I'll spend more money to make sure I don't have to run the heater to keep my truck cool.
I paid extra for the Troyer kit because it came with every single thing I would need and extremely detailed instructions. Also being able to call them if I had a problem was important. I'm pretty mechanically inclined but I'm not a ASE certified mechanic or anything so being able to contact someone that knows everything about it is worth the extra money to me.

That makes zero sense.

Patman has put together several kits and sold them to members on this site. What is being missed here is that you can put together a kit that is superior to most of the kits offered by the retailers. Every kit I have seen uses straps or plastic ties to hold the fans in place. These wiggle and rub holes in the tubes causing radiator leaks. My point was/is that if you can do a little cutting and drilling of aluminum straps and let Patman tell you where and what components, you will have a far superior fan setup. They work in this Texas heat, so they will work anywhere.
Not only will be be better, it costs less as you eliminate the middle man. That's just a bonus for a little of your time. If I could not do the mounting with aluminum brackets, I would not do a fan kit. You just ask for trouble when you use the plastic ties.
People are offering alterntives and advice. If you choose not to take it, not a problem. There is absolutly no reason for anyone to get snippy about it. I thought we were all about sharing knowledge and experience.

I agree with your post. Being snippy and one liners are coming from members as well as moderators.
Some members are prenching you can do one thing when its odvious that through there others posts it is not working. I'd hate for some to take advice here that is inaccurate and do harm to there vechile.
My advice would be don't make a $100 EFan kit that a guy has stated he can't get to function right and is overheating his truck. ref. raptor05121

No disagreement with that.

Exactly.

didn't say you did say used i was just implying that i dont like to buy used stuff. and considering that used items are(should) always be cheaper.
thanks for the help guys but your right 06xlt4x4 not being a ASE certified mechanic does make it harder to save some money. I'm all for learning how to be a "do it myself" type of guy but this is my first and only vehicle at the moment so i think its best to spend more money knowing it will benefit me.

There are some strange comments in this thread. When you quote someone and then make a comment, it is assumed that you are commenting on what they said. When you made the "I don't buy used" statement, I daresay it indicated to everyone that you thought Patrick was being frugal by buying used. Whether you meant it that way or not is irrevelant as it came across that way. Probably just part of the problem of comunicating with a keyboard.
