I just had mine installed and I love it. I have only had it installed for like a week, so i cant really make any real judgements. having some issues with it, but from an installation standpoint. nothing to do with the system itself.
When a company says prewired, all they mean is they clip the wires that are unnecessary for your particular install, i.e. an alarm will have wires for both a negative and a positive input for door sensors for example, you only need one or the other, so they cut the one you don't need, just makes the spaghetti tangle of wires less when you receive it. The PITA will be installing if they don't have some vehicle-specific directions, unless you know where all your wires are in your truck. If it doesn't come with it though, there are plenty of people here that have what you're looking for, including me! I just installed a SRT6700 three weeks ago, and like it so far. I paid $330 for the alarm and PATS override, so don't bid any more than that.
I have the SRT9000 which is basically the same thing but has a color key FOB and some other neat gadgets.
I like this system so far but the remote wouldn't charge so I sent it back to Travis and the replacement should be here any day now. Once I recieve it im sure I will be even more impressed with the system.
I have the SRT 6700 but have not been very happy with it. I bought it from Travis and KCautosound.com ( Travis is great by the way). But I have been getting far less than the expected range out of my unit. I figured with a unit with a mile of range when in the clear that I should be able get signal even with a building or wall in the way when I am less that 500ft away, but this is not the case for me. Have others with the SRT antenna had similar issues, or do I expect too much from this system? I think maybe I got a bad unit. My old $60 Bulldog unit I had in my old SUV function nearly as good as this.
I was hopeing to compare notes on our SRT-6700's. I had a CA-640 remote start in my old 95 Caprice and I didn't really have anything about it I didn't like too much, mostly I liked it. I installed and programmed it myself with no issues.
I've had problems with the SRT-6700 in my new 95 Caprice . I installed it myself again. Ironically, the optional satellite control module works better than the regular remote control once I got it set up right.
I have the same complaints about the range as you do, it's nowhere near the .75 to 1 mile range they promised.
It's also erratic. Sometimes the remote seems to lock up. Sometimes, it won't start the car or send other commands until I hit "lock" or "unlock" about 4-5 times then it starts working again. Also, the tones the remote plays when you press start don't play every time, that's erratic too.
I called Code Alarm tech support but they were of little help. They said to test the: Antenna wire, antenna, remote, and alarm brain, in that order. I have no spare parts to swap those parts one at a time to troubleshoot the problem, and no identical system installed in another vehicle to compare symptoms with. Truthfully, I forget if these symptoms extend to the one-way remote included in the system, I need to re-test the one-way remote and see if that works reliably all the time.
You could really help me! Does your two-way remote ever get erratic for no reason?
The SRT6700 has been a problematic piece since it's release. So much in fact that the SRT series has ceased shipments until they can figure out whats going on with the remotes or the antennas to them. Even I, being a direct Code Alarm dealer, can't get a straight answer from Code. I have some pretty good buddies in the tech department that even are in the dark with the units future. I am simply told that "soon" the replacements will be available. I'm very sorry for the problems that these units are having.
The SRT6700 on paper is the ideal system for us Ford owners. It has extended range and included the ability to work with the door keypad function. Who could ask for anything more. Problem is that it starts out strong then after awhile it has the same issues.
I am on a "first to call" list for these units when they become available. All customers will be immediately notified and I will get the customers straightened out. Sorry it's taking so long.

Thank you SO much KC! I'm so greatful for the inside track. And i'm upset at Code Alarm for their refusal to admit there is a problem. I've read of problems with other systems of theirs before where they eventually solved them, I think one involved cutting a jumper on one of their antenna assemblies and that was the whole fix. Code is know for doing this, not communicating fast enough that there is a problem. I wish I would have read your post before I brought another unit. I brought a whole second unit to try swapping the remotes, antenna, antenna wire, and brain in that order to try to troubleshoot the problem.
I was so careful and surgical with the way I installed this SRT-6700, and it's the third remote start I've installed on a GM car, and this is the first one to have issues.
Can I call you for more info on how I can get the updated parts when they come out to fix these problems? I was also wondering what problems are documented. Like I said, I see poor range much less than 3/4 mile and the remote locks up until I hit lock or unlock 4-5 times. And the tones don't play every time it starts, and the remote doesn't always indicate reliably by the one beep and on the display that the car started, in addition to the tones not playing.
Anyway, thanks SO much for the info! Can I send you a pizza or something???
By the way, yes, it would be perfect, IF it worked!
Oh, I agree too. It has so many good features and can be adapted to work with so many OEM vehicle systems.
Oh, BTW. The CA-640 I had would beep twice on the remote with the chirps disabled, so you knew the system had armed without even having to look at the remote if it beeped twice. On the SRT6700, if you disable the chirps on the car the remote stops beeping twice when you arm the system. And, on the CA-640, you had total control of the aux outputs through programming. You could have them timed on from 1 second to hours and then reset, fully programmable. You could also pick from latched, momentary, or timed. I know they were trying to make programming more simple but that was so much better for people who build custom cars and need a lot of flexability with their aux outputs. If the other issues were fixed, that would be my only other issues.
I'm also curious why they went back from fully programmable shock sensors built into the CA-640 brain back to external shock sensors with the knobs you have to mess with. I guess the internal programmable shock sensors were not working out?
Keep trying Code Alarm. If you would work out these issues and your tech support and FINALLY get two-way telematics working you could corner the market!!!

Oh, BTW, these remote or antenna problems, do they apply only to the SRT6700, or also to the SRT9000 as well? I see on the kcautosound website that the 9000 is still up on the site, just not the 6700? - Thank you for any input!
