Axles To Run 54s

wanting opinions on here of axles and if anyone knows of any deals or so on axles that are rebuilt that could handle some 54s... im wanting to build a truck so im just gonna try to get parts as i can until i get em all and have it built. Prob happen when im on my next tour in afghanistan though but just wanna start getting some stuff together. Dont know if should just buy a truck already the way i want it when i get back or start saving and buy a truck and have it built. Dont know yet

well most will say 2.5 running gear or Mog Portals. I'd run mogs if I could set my truck up just due to the increased ground clearance. That being said, I think if you found a AAM 11.5" rear end out of a Dodge and their 9.5" front you'd be fine with a gas motor. Lots of friends running that same drivetrain in the their dodge Rams w/ 38s and 1200+ ft lbs of torque to the ground, they are doing truck pulls, sled pulls and just mudding with no breakage yet.

As to buy vs build I'd buy just so you know what's been done in the truck vs getting someone else's rigged together to sell truck.

depends on what you are going to do with it. Ive seen guys run 52" Military tires on 1 ton axles, these will cause more strain then that of a 54" Bogger will as the Military tires are heavier.

Id honestly say if you are BUILDING a truck then id just skip the 1 ton axles and start dumping money into 2.5 ton Rockwells. These will be your best bet IMO. Not to say that properly built 1 ton axles wont hold up cause they can.

yeah id rather build but its the pain of not knowing what to do ya know? I try to research some of this stuff but its a pain in the a** after awhile. ill have to wait bc when i get back from this deployment im going to germany in march and prob getting deployed shortly after again. So im just trying to save up a lot of money and pay off my truck so i can just start buying stuff. What is about normal for buying 2.5 tons that are built ? I know a guy that would build my truck to run 49s for like 10k on leaf springs and roughly 20k with everything powder coated and frame 4linked on 49s as well on kings

Normal 2.5 ton axles run for around 1,500 for roll arounds. you can get them cheaper if you wait and find deals.

now if you are looking for them to be street worthy you will be looking in the 3-6k range depending on what went into them. another thing is Street worthy to one person is different then street worthy to another.

we run 5 tons on the streets in our water trucks. Problem with 2.5 ton running gear, no matter what anyone says is it takes a lot of power to turn them reliably. Sure you can gear down but then your limited to maybe 40 or 45 mph. If your thinking of running 2.5 tons with a 5.4 and stock tranny, i'm not sure that's gonna work out so great.
