im a traitor

Well last week I went and done it. I traded the F150 in for a Tacoma and I moved to Winter Garden, FL. Anyway due to the gas prices I just couldn't afford it anymore. So I went and got me a 2004 red Trd Tacoma.
Here are some pictures of the new truck.

I'm sure you'll get some $#&^$ on here for it, but all in all nice truck. I moved up from a Tacoma to my ford a couple years back. I loved my Taco though. Tough truck and a great little 4cyl truck that could do almost anything. Gas is killing most of us, and you'll def get a little better gas with that. I did notice though, that the new Tacos get MUCH better gas than the older body styled ones. My 4cyl was only getting about 18mpg and the new 4cyl get about 23mpg. GOod luck with it and if you ever want to take it through the mud let me know!

Its your choice, but you really arent going to save on gas with that Tacoma. Compact and midsize trucks get pretty much the same milage as do fullsize trucks. I know this because I went from a '99 Ranger to the '99 F-150 that I have now. The Ranger got 18 mpg on the highway, the F-150 gets 17 mpg highway.
I'll glady trade 1 mpg for the size and power of a fullsize.
The only way you really save on gas by going to a smaller truck is if you go to a 4x2 with a 4-cylinder in it. If you are going to that, you might just as well buy a small car because trucks like that are pretty much worthless.

well my F150 got between 11 and 13mpg the Tacoma gets between 15 and 18. Pretty much I don't care what you all think. If you read me post I didn't ask what you did. Whats done is done one day when I get out of school and pay off the loans I will get another F150 right now I am happy with what I got. I do alot of city driving and so far the tacoma is better for ME. I will check the forum from time to time because my dad still has his F150 and is starting to mod it.

x2

That truck isn't going to get the mileage you think it will. You might be able to manage 20mpg on the freeway. My 4.6L will get the same mileage. Good luck with your Yoda

yeah I know I never thought I would get a import but so far its nice. I do miss the biggness of my F150 thats the first thing I noticed when I first drove it. I mean since I moved to florida I don't tow anything anymore. All of the toys got left in MS with my family. So the whole pay load towing thing doesnt effect me. Like I said I will get another Ford once out of school and start coaching somewhere.

I got no problems with Toyotas trucks/suvs, they are built like tanks, and run forever. You go anywhere in the World, and the Toyota small pick-up is one of the most trusted vehicles in some of the Worlds toughest areas.

Besides great reliability, they have high resale value, though as gas prices go up, it may effect all trucks/suvs of all sizes, not just big ones.

BTW - When I saw your post, I though you were talking about stock/options/currency trader

i find it interesting though that the OP had oversize tires, basically a 34'' on his truck, and is probably using that setup as his measure for fuel mileage. that is not really an accurate measure, as he is comparing a modified truck to a bone stock truck, make, truck class, engine size, drivetrain, etc. aside. a more accurate measure would be what his f-150 got before putting on the oversize tires. that's just my observation though. i may be reading things wrong, however.

fwiw, i would personally lower my truck back down and remount 32'' passenger "C" tires before selling it. i love the f-150 too much to just drop it, and sell it b/c of gas. as already said, a compact truck is basically a car with a bed, one step in the chain above the ol' el camino.

FAR from tanks, have you not seen the picture of the crumpled tailgate? Toyotas arent as "tough" as they once were...

Ill take a Ford, Dodge, and do I say it chevy over a new Yota!
