I got a call to go pick some buddies up when they got stuck. I tried to go as far around a mudhole as possible but it was way too deep and my truck was sunk up to the headlights with water in the cab. Its a real mess. The truck started when we got it out but as we were leaving it wouldn't crank or turn over. all of the electronics on the inside work. My buddy towed it home but it wont do anything, any ideas what the problem is? Its an 04 fx4. Thanks for any help.
Disconnect the battery and get under there and start unpluging every thing you can and cleaning the connections if it is as bad as you make it sound. Check the oil, trans fluid and the diff's. Go piss off the local superwash guy buy leaving 2' of mud in the bay!
im gonna have to change all of the fluids it was sitting in the water for several hours. I hope it will start soon if not im going to have to clean it and take it to the shop. what should i do about the inside with the carpet and everything? I just cant beleive that this all happened when i was going just to help someone out. I dont even like taking my truck off road.

Dry everything out as best you can, iincluding all electrical connections.
Change EVERY fluid on the truck, including draining all the fuel.
Change the plugs, starter, etc...
I have flooded a truck. For the interior cleanup everything has to come out. Seats, carpet and that foam below the carpet. I pressure washed the seats and carpet then wet-vacked out as much water as I could. Left them directly in the sun for 3 days and they dried. The foam below the carpet was screwed, ordered more and installed it.
Check the airbox to see if the truck sucked in water. If the airbox is wet you need to pull the plugs (sucks it's a 5.4) and turn the motor over with the plugs out to blow out any water. If you try to turn it over without doing this and you have sucked in water you will hydrolock the motor. This could cause you to throw or bend a rod. Flush all the fluids as mentioned and add dielectric grease to all plugs that could have possibly have gotten water in them
I grew some nuts and called the insurance company and they're getting back with me tomorrow. Also, I am having all of the carpets professionally cleaned and the entire truck detailed tomorrow morning at my house, a guy is coming to do it because i have none of the stuff to shampoo the carpets or anything. Then I'm going to have a buddy (in a Z71) tow me to the ford dealership to see what they can do. I've got a few friends up there. We'll see what happens. Thanks for the help guys I appreciate it.
if you were sunk up too the headlights, you hydrolocked your motor...and your going to ***** a brick when they give you the repair bill

Damn. Hopefully Its not hydrolocked, but knowing my luck it probably is. The water was up to the bottom of the headlight on the drivers side and it looked like almost all of the engine was above the water.
Make sure your buddy chips in for the bill or for the deductible.
Fat chance, he's fallen on hard times. Anyways, when I get this mess behind me and my truck is clean and running true again, I think I'm going to trade it in on an all black 08 GT.

Not to be rude... but friends need to pay for their own mistakes. If they can't pay the price, then they shouldn't be out there. Your job isn't a vehicle recovery service, and you shouldn't be doing that to your truck (I mean come on... over the headlights?).
I never take my truck 4-wheeling, offroading, mudding, or whatever you want to call it. These trucks are not made for that. 4WD is a luxury and only used when needed (weather conditions, work, or perhaps a hunting trip).
My recovries are limited to those in need... e.g. stuck in a ditch, in snow, etc. I don' jack around off-road and if my friends do, its on them. That way, I don't need help either. I am sorry, but $40K is an expensive toy. I will use my $1500 beater for that if I really HAD to.
We all know a friend can't afford to fix a serious mishap, so I just avoid the situation. I will help, but I am not putting my hard work, financial well being, and my family's vehicle in jeopardy because a friend wanted to have fun in the mud. They go prepared... or they pay the price for an off-road vehicle recovery company to help them out.

I absolutely wish that I had that mentality before I went into this situation. I've come out of this situation with it though. Like you, my truck was never 4-wheeled, mudded or off-roaded ever. The only time it was ever off of the pavement was during hunting season or when a friend needed help, I always have a hard time telling a friend in need of help "no". But that has now changed for certain circumstances. The water wasn't over the headlights but it was up to the bottom of the light on the driver's side. It's hard to describe the way the truck was sitting because I tried my best to go around the hole, there wasn't any water in the truck on the passengers side at all. I'm only mad at myself for this, I made the choice to go help and got myself screwed in the process. Man I wish I had a time machine.
Well ive got a 2005 FX4 and ive had water up to my headlights before too when i was running through a mudhole (3" body and 35"s) and the last time i went through i got stuck there for about 30 minutes while my friends drove there trucks over to get me. Ive never had any issue's besides a blown 4wd solinoid (im going to seal mine up soon to avoid that problem again) but I guess i was just lucky or something . I love my truck though and i dont feel like killing it so ive stopped 4wheeling it like that so much but im still building it up to be a tow vehicle for my buddies when they need it. I could never leave a buddy in need because im the kind of person that would do anything for my friends. I would much rather lose my truck than a friendship besides the point that its fun to help ur buddies out. I do have one quick question for you though. Why would you buy an FX4 F150 if you never planned on taking it offroad? Just wondering.
