Factory Nav Install

After reading the posts about installing the factory navigation system I purchased a factory unit off ebay to put in my 2007 Lariat. My truck had the 6CD/MP3 system (non-Audiophile). The navigation unit came programmed by the seller and was a plug and play installation. It works great.

I found one thing that others may find helpful. Several people have mentioned having to cut the plastic on the dash surround to get the unit to fit flush with the dash trim. I found that the unit I bought fit flush without cutting. If I had cut first, the unit would be recessed below the woodgrain trim.

I don't know why mine was different or if I'm just missing something, but anyone doing this install might want to check the fit before starting to cut.

It was OEM, Gen 1. I don't know much about gen 2, but they look nice. I don't remember the seller's name, but he had several. I'll look back and try to remember to post it. I'm not a frequent poster though.

There were several options on sellers, if you look, you can find one that is compatible with your options and you won't have to have it programed. The guy from Florida sells his ready to go. Its expensive, but if you add up all the shipping charges and costs for having to buy the antenna separate, getting the unit programmed and getting the current map DVD, it may not be such a bad deal. There used to be a member on here that sold new, not take out, units. I don't know the price, and can't recall his user name, but he is mentioned several times in the factory nav threads. People seemed to be happy dealing with him.

Lariat Chrome -- I zip tied it to a bracket that is under the dash tray. Others on here have done the same and I stole the idea from them.

Broncoguy -- That makes sense. I probably should have researched further. Just glad I didn't cut before checking!
