Sounds great... What I found was that when I installed the exhaust system and the CAI at the same time there was a substantial increase in performance, more air in and no back pressure... I will be interested in hearing what you find out about your system... How does your truck sound inside the cab when you are traveling at a constant speed? Any drone in the cab? Where does your system exit? Behind the rear wheels or straight out the back? Post some pictures when you get some free time... Now only if you had the Mountaincats to install...
I don't think you will look as good as S_G when you crawl under the hood... Air Raid is a good choice... If you have your daughter do the installation be prepared for her wanting to take your truck for a test drive for half the day or longer... I'll be interested on your thoughts about the throttle body spacer... I have not read anyones opinions where it is worth the money, but that could be sour grapes... When you have a custom exhaust system installed and created for your truck make sure they use stainless and not aluminized steel... You will want it to last... Are you going to get a programer with custom tunes to handle the problem of the truck running to lean with the increased air flow? 60" HiLift w/ winch kit & mount, you got the "Big Boy", I hope you don't have to use it on your truck to soon... Looking forward to see images of the new and improved version of Fefay...
What!!! You don't want to be in DC... Crime capital of the U.S.... And what's not to like about Barstow, plenty of sun, sand, and dust... Good four wheeling... Just have to cope with 45 million other Californians and sales tax... Hope something better comes up... We will meet next spring... In the mean time hang in there...
Regarding the Hi Lift Tire Lifter Adapter, after looking at your pictures Im sure it will work with the AMP Bitterroot wheels. The only concern I would have is the hooks that connect to the wheels. I hope that they have some type of heavy duty plastic coating... If not I can see them scratching the heck out of the wheels... I like your idea for mounting the lift. I know where mine is going to go... The Tool Box... Ahh... I think you made a mistake in posting your reply about Bertha... I am glad I am making this posting or I would have missed it and now I know what you meant in you last short note... Those old Chevys weren't bad. My uncle had a '73 Blazer for years with a 350 in her and took her everywhere... He was an avid hunter and every year would take her to Utah for an elk hunt, it always brought him back... Those were my VWs days...
Yeah - Bertha's seen some days, but they'll bring her through fine. We have another buddy (was also at the Rogue, but traveling seperately) who is a K5 expert and can fix anything.
Hi-Lift Jack & Kit: I'm sniffing at a 60" Forged Hi-Lift with a Winching, Chain Tension, and Wheel Lifting attachements. Also going to get a poly Handle Keeper/Dampener and Mounting Kit for storing the Jack securely along the front bulkhead of the bed (I'm pretty sure a 60" will fit between the rails).
QuadraTec.com and SuperTruckUSA.com both sell these set-ups.
I'm Not going to buy the Jack Expanded Baseplate since I can get the same service out of a 12"x12" sheet of 3/4" plywood, and can secure the Jack Baseplate with carrage bolts and wingnuts for rapid field adaptability.
I'm also Not going to buy the Curved Bumper adaptor, since I believe that the Wheel Lift adapter might serve the same function, but not the other way around. I don't plan to change tires with the Hi-Lift either (Ground Jacks on the axles are for that kind of work - not by the bumpers. Too dangerous and likely to cause damage to modern-day factory bumpers).
That's a shame, on the other hand the K5 has seen better days. When I saw her for the first time I could see that she has seen some serious duty. I know Karl will get her up an running sometime... Regarding my wheels, the back of each spoke is almost smooth. There is an indentation a little more than the width of a finger and about 3/4 of an inch deep. These are forged and not stamped wheels and although I have not seen the adapter that you are talking about I am sure they are strong enough for that type of lift method... I will need to talk to Les Schwab to be sure since they do sell the Hi-Lift Jack, an item I was planning to purchase... I know I can lift my truck with it using either my tow hook or my 2" trailer receptacle... I will let you know about the results of my inquiry...
I met Karl today along with Eric, two great guys... We transfered your tires, I hope they make it to you... Why, you might ask... Well, I got the low down on the "hillbilly" trailer and the exciting excursion that you guys made with that gem... Your tires were lashed down and Karl assured me that he had some spare "U" bolts... I'm sure they will be there for you??? I didn't get to meet Karl's wife, she was traveling in a different vehicle... Just thought that I would give you the skinny on the days events...
Later...
