Well I got my truck around 75k miles and it was bone stock. In great shape. I'm pretty sure the prior owners pampered it, lucky me :-). I ordered the headers and dual exhaust the day after I got the truck. A buddy of my fathers was a nascar mech and has been working on cars and trucks since he could pretty much walk (guy's like 65 and still runs a shop out of his back yard garage, we'll call him Joe) Joe suggested the shorties because they are easier to install and they'll give me the little more ponies and torque I'm looking for on the top end. He suggested stainless because it won't rust and it won't melt up against the block like some aluminum ones do. Every place in town wouldn't touch my headers because they were afraid a bolt would break off or it would strip (mechs don't want to be liable, just because my headers were a little rusty). Joe said he'd do it no problem for me but I'd have to pay him like any other customer, no problem with me, he installed them for a very low price (300$ for the whole job) Overall I guess your question is why I went with shorties. Torque, I tow stuff here and there and it's nice to have. It's always a shorties vs long pipes. Shorties are easier to install, they sound reaall nice and according to Joe they add more torque. No emissions tests down in Florida my friend, and even if they had one I think I'd pass, well I hope I'd pass. I've pulled a lot of buddies out of the mud without even spinning my tires, while the other guys are hoppin around.

Any more questions just feel free to post,
    Charles

I saw the truck and exhaust system you have. I am in the process of putting exhaust on my 2000 xlt 5.4 7700. Both manifolds are broke again and this time I am going with stainless headers. Just wondering how you like the duals, how its been with emmission inspections, and why you went with shorties (my first thought also). Hope you dont mind me picking your brain. My truck has 90K on it and I have had it since new. No real plans for a new one any time soon but here in all the salt, they only last so long.
    Thanks,
    Ray
