Personally, I like the look of wide, from the rear of the truck and coming down the road. Yes, they stick out maybe 3/4 of an inch. I have an XLT, no flares,. I think they would be even with Lariat flares. I think maybe Roush designed the wheels for that.
No, my tires do not rub at all and have plenty of room. They are 305/50/20. I think the wider tire gives less traction in the rain because you have more tread srface that can hydraplane. The water gets between the road and the rubber, and the grooves can't ge rid of it all. I think any wider tire is going to be less traction than the same make of tire, only narrower. I just take it very easy in wet weather.
I highly doubt you'd have an issue with melting. If you are concerned, though, just go with the Crystal Vision ones you mentioned before. They're not a bad bulb, just be aware that the blue filter does remove some of the output. It may not be much, and they're still DoT certified.
I have the square fog lights (2005 F150 FX4) and was running 9005 (65W) before I knew how bad the glare was. There wasn't any melting, but those were the larger square ones. Like I said, if you're concerned about melting, just stick with the Crystal Vision ones.
The Crystal Vision is ok, but not the best option. It uses a blue filter to create a whiter light. Any type of filter will lower the output, maybe not tremendously, but it will be affected.
Another option, which might be something you're interested in, is to simply buy an Philips XP bulb in 9006, which is meant for low beams. The plugs are exactly the same and the filament in the bulb is in the same location. The only difference is the bulb is a 55Watt bulb instead of the 45Watt, that your fogs use, and you'll need to shave the tabs a bit to make it fit in the bulb holder. It's not hard, I did it in a few minutes with my old bulbs.
I do not suggest modifying a 9005 bulb. The 9005 bulb is a high beam bulb and causes a lot of glare to oncoming drivers. It also runs at 65Watts, which is 20Watts more than the fogs.
Hey man, I appreciate the comment. Your comments just made the posts I've written, on the topic of HID kits, well worth it! I believe the brightest bulb you can put in your headlights, without doing a retrofit of an OEM HID projector, would be the Philips XP (X-Treme Power) bulbs. I haven't personally used them, but they've been highly recommended over on HIDPlanet and they're supposed to give +80% gains.
