To be honest, I don't believe there's any differences Between leveling kits... As long as they are not the plastic type... Steel vs Aluminum not really an advantage with either... Steel will rust and aluminum may be a little softer... We are only talking about a spacer... The most important concern about a leveling kit is the height... Three inches is to tall, harsh CV angles, one inch is to short, won't see much difference... I chose a 2" leveling kit, a good compromise... I'm from the Pacific Northwest and a regional tire store, Les Schwab, installed mine which are painted steel... The brand, who cares... I have a two year warranty, that's what counts... My suggestion is look for a good price and have them installed by a reputable shop... But don't take off the step bars, it will be a problem for passengers if you do...

Don't forget to have an alignment after installation...

I did not try the 35" tires for two reasons... First, the 35X12.50R17LT Toyo Open Country MTs are 34.8" tall, which is not a problem, only .7" taller than I am running now. That's only .35 of inch increase in the radius not significant. The real issue is that they are 13.2"s wide. They will rub on my truck do to the side lugs on the MTs. That's almost 2"s wider which will give a significant increase of rolling resistance, sapping power and giving a major hit on the MPG. Second, 35" tires and above do require re-gearing the rear end, which is not cheap, to keep the same power level and save the transmission... That just did not seem reasonable for just a .7" gain in height...

You do have everything correct... I do have to mention that I do have after market wheels... AMP Bitterroots, they are 17x8.5" wheels with a BS of 4.53"s. The tires are Toyo Open Country Mts that are 34.1"s tall and 11.6"s wide... The FX4 wheels you have are 18x7.5"s with a BS of 5.7"s... There may be a problem with your rig because the same tires for 18" wheels are 35.1"s tall which could be an issue... I would try one first to see if it fits...
