Tailgate reflector removal

How do I go about removing the tailgate reflectors on my 06 mark lt. I have black led tail lights and the red reflectors just look terrible next to them so I would like to remove them. That way I can spray them. I see they alignment pins. I just tried some braided fishing line and it didn't seem to be working maybe just takes awhile? Thanks josh

Why not just swap to a standard F150 tailgate?

Or, maybe he could remove the smoked taillights and install them on an F150? That would avoid the trouble of removing and replacing an entire tailgate.

Sorry, Skidoo, I wanted to, but I just couldn't resist.

I wonder if thin wire might cut through the pins easier than fishing line? Possibly, you might be able to pry them off with a plastic trim removal tool too. I'm sure you don't want to use a metal tool, which would probably damage the paint.

Yeah I've thought of trying to pry then off just don't want to break them. "Not cheap for a reflector". A buddy of mine at a body shop basically told me well when you break the first one you should be able to figure out how to get the second one off. Kind of wanted to be like yeah let me go up to one of your vehicles and break something and say well I figured it out for next time.

I'll try and look tonight on my Ford service manual. Couldn't find anything on Alldata that was helpful

That would be awesome might have wrecked one it's like a big glue pad heated it with a heat gun but reflector separated from the back a bit. I think I got it to hot.
