Brooks-
Meant to get back sooner. Just got done washing the gas off of my face

I thought the tool was going to slid the female part all the way off. It's just used to get over that little "safety hump". I had it off this hole time, I just wasn't pulling on the female part to get it off the filter pipe.

THanks again for all the help. The job was real easy once I found out what I was doing.

hey marcus.. did you drain the old filter then try to blow thru it?
do that, then try it with a new one.. big difference!

since its only 10-15 bucks, i'll be doing it every 10k miles.

where did you get that line tool? what is the part number & cost?
i may pick one up. it looks easier to use than the one i use.

Sorry, just saw this.

From looks alone, it was considerably easier to use than the one you posted.

p.n. is 7660 . It's made by OTC. Fuel Line Disconnection Tool. Cost was $16. Bought it at a local CarQuest store around here.

Hope that helps you out. Thanks again for the info. Everything worked great at the track today.

Due to the recent resurgance of interest in fuel filters, I thought I'd bring this gem of a thread back to life.

Napa Autoparts sells a really nice hinged, metal set for $26. You can get the cheapo white plastic ones for about $10 at Sears or O'Reily. Just ask them for a AC/Fuel line disconnect tool. These are really common and a PN isn't necessary. You'll probably just confuse the poor guy at the counter with a PN.

NOTE:

re-use the red caps on the old filter to prevent abundant gas leakage onto face, into ears, etc.

vacuum line caps work also.

note for above note: don't be a dumbass and throw away said red caps, only to need them for next filter change... it sucks or something.. the new filter didn't come with caps, so i've developed cat-like reflexes to dodge the deluge of gas that follows. not too bad i must say..

vacuum caps work well too.. insert in ears and nose to prevent gas contamination. wait.. will they fit on the ends of the filter? oops. no wonder the guy at autozone looked at me like i was a loony after trying to find the right size.

well if you bought two sets of various sizes of end caps instead of 'try before you buy" individual fitment, all your small facial orifices and filter ends would be properly protected, or something.
