gen 1 L manual tranny?

i dont have a gen 1 L yet but thinking about getting one as soon as i get enough money and down the road thinking a stickshift would be fun to drive what trans would hold up the best with least amount of fab. i did some light research and got mixed reviews of the m5od just food for thought any knowledge/ ideas would be good or a website i can look at specs of trannys like length, gear ratio, bolt pattern and whatever else is gonna be a key factor
thanks in advance

the M5OD is a POS transmission, there's a few Gen1's with 'em swapped in and the quickly got parked after the swap was complete...

the E4OD is a better reliable transmission
