Exclamation Why Can't We Drill Drain Hole In Torque Converter

"Why can't we drill and tap drain hole in torque, converter, so we can drain fluid. Could we use plug with allen head so it would fit flush should be no balanceing problems. "I see no reason why we can't do this i have drain plug on my 2003 lightning but you can only drain about seven quarts out. thanks for you input.

if you dont feel like payin for the whole thing to be done at a dealership on a machine, you could always supply the dealership with the fluid and just pay the 50$ or what not in labor to have the total transmission system flushed out. its not run on only but the pressure from ur own transmission pump and all now that they have found pressure machines mess it up. i use to work at a ford dealership and i did it to both my ford lightning and my 98 150 when i had it.

Drilling a converter will put metal chips into it. Very bad idea. My 00 has a drain plug.

its deff not a good idea to be mixing fluids, get all the same fluid based on what ur specific transmission takes, if you dont you could end up with big problems lol...you wouldnt think something as simple as that would be a big deal but its weird cuz it really is.

Also the converter wouldn't be balanced correctly. You would be adding weight were the plug would be added.

I wouldn't do it. Not all Lightnings have drain plugs on the converters either. Mine doesn't have one so I just used some tubing and disconnected the return line to the trans and pumped the old fluid out per a "how-to" I read.

In Lightnings, the 4r100 converters were manufactured with drain plugs only up til Nov. 2000. After that date, all the converters were not assembled with drain plugs. It makes you wonder if Ford stopped for only the costs of the added plugs or was there another reason, like a design flaw or problematic effect from them??? Stan

The 4R100 has a torque convertor drain plug up until the build date 8-11-2001. My April 01 build had one...
