I got a month suspension like you also, so I went to the court house in bridgeview and got a work permit to drive. Which I have a company car with JVI companies stickers on the doors so I wasn't to worried about getting in trouble, plus my job requires me to drive allot to look at work and manage all my projects I have going on. We happen to do night time work in our industry and we happen to do weekend work allot also so it wasn't to hard for me to get around anything in that month. I didn't get pulled over at all during that suspension period, but I had a way out no matter what.

blowntruck: i don't know the details yet but that is what the county courthouse told me. i will contact the assistant attorney thursday to find out. so far i know that A) i dont have to appear at the actual courthouse to vacate the guilty plea and re-plea guilty WITH court supervision and B) it is mostly paperwork that might waive the suspension before it takes effect if done "on time."

rtkilla: so i should ask for a work permit from my county courthouse? (hopefully i don't have to go in person since that is 6 hours away) i dont drive at nite much (parties are all within walking distance or i ride w/ others) but i would like to cruise during the day, especially when it gets warmer (chea right!)

See?

This is one reason why you should N E V E R just pay A N Y ticket. EVER. Get a lawyer. Especially if you are under 30. Insurance for a male under 30 years old is ridiculous. Most of the time one ticket won't hurt you, but in some states, the insurance companies run wild with even a single ticket. Usually 2 tickets is at least a 25% surcharge on your insurance rates for 3 years post conviction... No matter how you slice it, that's a lot of cash you could be spending on more important stuff. Traffic fines are the least of your worry, it's the conviction that counts. When you plead guilty, you give up your rights. You've allowed the state to convict you of a crime without so much as a peep out of you.

Make them prove it next time. check out www.motorists.org - the NMA. Lots of useful info on how to fight tickets etc.

good luck.

good news guys. i ended up being able to receive court supervision with my most recent ticket and it will be taken off my record. once that happens my suspension will be waived by the state attorney's office. however this will take 2 weeks or more so i will be driving low-key until then in the altima (no straight pipes or 0-100 bursts). actually i'll probably just get rides from friends until this all clears up.

i do have to pay a 61 dollar court fee for the court supervision though, but i figure it's worth my 2 months+ of driving that i regained.

hopefully the process will take shorter than it seems.

so jesse white can suck *it*

This Guy got off easy,

It was 1 1/2 years ago and I don' t like to tell anyone this but I will anyways being it is the past.

Oct 24/01 arrived at court to fight 2 tickets both achieved 4 hours apart (young and stupid? yes) Cop lies on stand and I lost,I fought the law and the law one. That same day before court they said who is your lawyer? Gord Yake. oh, ok after loseing those tickets I got a suspention for 3 months, this gets better. I assumed I could drive my chev elcamino home being I lived a hour away from the court house. Nope, I was being stalked by a cop car hideing behind a row of parked vehicles I didn' t move my car 10 Feet and I was busted so, off to jail. Meanwhile I moved recently from jarvis bay to Marina Bay to my new house and there was a communication break down between the post office and insurance company and me while in jail they got me on 2 counts of no insurance that alone is good for 3 months. off to court for the afternoon and Gord the lawyer is there the crown prosicuter asks him did Pat retain you for a lawyer? Nope, Purgery. I had asked a friend to drop money off at the law firm before 10:00 am and he did at 4:00 pm well I now have 2COUNTS OF NO INSURANCE, PURGERY, DRIVING WHILE SUSPENDED. I went to jail for 6 months and I will never GET CAUGHT speeding again I will see of that. I now have devices to pervent getting caught on my vehicles.

Just obey the Law it will help you live a better life.

yep it sucks. i called to ask about temp permits for work/education etc fearing that worst comes to worst i get my license supended for 3 months. but for the probationary permit i was not eligible being too young (cuz you know people under 21 still live with their parents and get dropped off at school )

for the restricted license, my suspension had to be 60 or 90 days. fair enough. but come to find out the process of getting a hearings officer and all the paperwork cleared takes about 2 months. and on top of that i would have to appear in person! well i live 6 hrs away and have no means of transportation there (parents are on business/vacation til end of march). too bad! can i get another state's license? nope can't switch when your license is suspended. oh and i had to be within a 50 mile distance to the stateline of IL in order to be eligible for the 8 hour traffic class. so i asked: so basically i will have to somehow find a ride or take the train for 400-450 miles to my hometown to take an 8 hour class in order to basically shorten the suspension by one month? YES.

but what if i need to drive daily to get to class? my tuition alone costs 14k/year. should i drop out? are you saying because i received two SPEEDING TICKETS within a 24 month period and because I'm under 21 that basically i will have to either walk to class, find a ride EVERY day, or drop out? and quit my job? and starve? her exact words were "up to you, we can't help you here." this was from a public servant that i help PAY every year.

i'm glad i finally found someone who could help me. now i just need to wait out the month or so it takes for all the paperwork to go thru.

Exclamation Word of warning!

I remember when I lived in IL that the chicago courts did all the suspended lisence hearings on the same day and then had the police cars waiting outside to see who drove away...

Just something to think about.

I hope everything works out for you.

I kinda know what you are going through, I just got home from the National Safety Council Driver re eductation course.

I got 3 tickets last year and had to serve a 30 day suspension. I did learn that there is now a national databace that shares your driving record in every state. So if you get a ticket any where in the country it will go on your record.

sorry to hear about your misfortune, and good luck

Don

wow i didnt think the penalties were so severe for those over the age of 21 don. i thought for those over 21, it went on a point system. 3 in one year and its a 30 day suspension?? i was looking forward to turning 21 so i could speed more

so did you learn anything in the class? imo those people who get into accidents (those that are their faults) should automatically be required to take safety classes, not those who just speed on open highways.

thanks for the consolation...

If your still interested in how the state laws read most are on the web. just search for "[your state] code of laws"

I would advise against driving during your temporary suspension. One little mistake and they could throw you in jail, confiscate your vehicle and suspend your license for a lot longer. If you think you have it bad now, the risk of getting pulled over and the penalty would definitely be severe. Good luck and hopefully things work out for you.
