Are there any member in here from France? I am working in Suresnes (a Parisian suburb) and was wondering if anyone might be in the area? I will be in Southern France this weekend, on the Med But, I be around here for another couple of weeks or more I'll check back every day or so.
Never seen anyone from France here but what would you have expected, the way some Americans are talking about them, here.
I think there was one in the Harley forum some time ago.
Not sure though.
Ok, I will keep checking back. I have not seen an F-150 in France yet, but I will keep looking. I did see a Dodge Ram driving down the Champs Elyesses (sp??), what a strange sight that was. It truely is a shame that some people insist on grouping all people of a county as being the exactly the same.
I live just on the English side of the Channel Tunnel - I take the 30-minute trip over to France whenever I want to hit V-Max on an empty autoroute. The trick is to drive like it's stolen, then stop at the aires de repos for a few minutes so that the tollgate times don't show a really illegal average speed.
The French give the Lightning more respect and compliments than pretty much anywhere else I've been - including the local police
Cool, I have yet to see a L over here. Some of the French guys that I work with have been to Little Rock and loved the American cars. I am suprised that there are not more, but from what I have heard getting one here costs an arm and a leg. Feeding it over here costs the other arm and leg, so most people can't spend that kind of money on a car. Keep your eyes open, if you are around Paris for a dark green Clio. If it does something strange just smile and wave, it's me still trying to figure out all of the French driving rules.
Now don't get me wrong, being part french myself, but we are pretty much a streotypically xenophobic bunch of people when it comes to "les americains". anything you guys make aint no good to us. or so most of france believes, no me though
for most of france the roads are just too narrow, the petrol just too expensive, the parts too rare for us vehicles in general, appart from the cote d'azure where you'll see hummers by the dozen, the big pickups are a rarity, come to think of it any pick-up is a rarity in france.
England is a different story though, pick-ups are really starting to catch on now, but the price of petrol and the purchase price and insurance put people off, for example an fully loaded FX4 supercrew will set you back £38000 + tax = $84000, plus the gas is $7 a gallon so that rules out most people pretty quickly, myself included.
I did not aim that toward anyone in particular, only all people that breathe air. Believe me I know what it feels like to be disliked because of sterotypes. I feel that every day here, typically I am the only American in the building, and the only English speaker. Many French people are reluctant to speak the English that they do know because other French people will make fun of there mistakes. Add to that my very limited ability to speak French, and I very well understand what it is like to be on the outside looking in, disliked only because of the color of your passport. I am not even going to get into the dislike for Bush and all the crap I catch for this.
I'm not complaining, many of the guys that I work with treat me like a king. But I think that you might be picking a fight that should not be picked.
Originally posted by Wookie Ok, then we are on the same page. It's sad but true, many of us dislike other people simply because we do not completely understand them.
If we ever meet up the first round is on me. So if you ever come to Little Rock, or sometimes Paris, look me up.
Joe
I'm in Toronto so I don't think one is that much further from me than the other.
I guess I have a different outlook as I live in "the most diverse, multicultural city in the world" Right now, about half of Toronto is non-white. And of the 50% that are white, they represent ALL of Europe, not just the western areas.
Well the closest I will be to Toronto any time soon will be this weekend when I fly home. I will be flying over parts of eastern Canada but at 35,000' I won't be able to stop for a social call.
Just for the record, I don't have a problem with anybody because of the color of their skin, or the language they speak. After rereading my previous posts I think that someone could have misunderstood what I meant to say. What I was trying to say is that, deep down all people are all the same, the sooner that everyone realizes this the better off the world will be. It doesn't really matter where you are from, what you look like or what you believe at the end of the day everyone wants a good nights sleep.
Now if these Europeans could learn how to use the right *#@&ing keyboard. At work I use a AZERTY, on my laptop at the hotel I use a QWERTY, after switching between the two I can't type for #@$*.
