Question How do you pull the ashtray/cupholder?! 03 F-150

Hey all,

I have an 03 F-150 and I read something at one point that the spring in the back of the dash ashtray/cupholder tends to break/fall off on these models. Well, mine was one of them, where it's pushed all the way in and won't bounce back out. Extremely annoying!

Anyway, I pulled it out and reached back there and pulled the spring out that was just lying there...cool. However, how the heck do you get the actual ashtray/cup holder assembly out of the dash?!

I just got all of the service manuals for the truck, but can't seem to locate it in there. I've looked under the interior trim section, the instrument panel section and nothing. I paid a bunch for the darn service manuals (ALL of them), so that I could use them for instances such as this and yet, it seems useless.

I'm sure it's something simple that I'm overlooking, but if anyone could let me know how to do it (or even provide pictures, that would be awesome!), I would appreciate it. I'd love to mount the spring back on so I can use the thing normally.

Thanks!
Mat

Here are a couple of write ups on it. I used a couple of screws and nuts to reattach mine.

Cup holder spring broke

Ashtray/Cupholder messed up

Thanks a bunch, Glen.

I must have missed it when I did my search before on the subject. :o

The second thread has pictures which makes it MUCH easier to understand, but someone in the first thread (2nd page) said they reached under the dash and were able to just depress the two tabs with their fingers and slide it out.

So, I guess I'll try that first and see if it's easier than sticking two screwdrivers in there and trying to depress them both at the same time. LOL

Thanks again for the info!
