My wife once (unknown to me), loaned my truck to my stepson who proceeded to burn a hole in my new seats. She sewed (hand stitched) over the hole w/ some matching thread. When I discovered the repair some time later (I wasn't driving the truck much), I couldn't help but be impressed w/ the quality of the repair, although I was still pissed

I had the same wear spot start and eventually turn into a hole in my 02. i called my dealer and got the name of the upholstery shop they use and then skipped the dealer and went directly to the source. didnt cost much (i dont remember exact charge) and turned out great. they built up the padding on the side to keep the seat frame from causing the problem to come back.
