Thumbs down Split Bench seats

I just completed a 1150km round trip with my truck (700plus miles) I hate the bench seats. (by the way i did get 23-24mpg with the 5.4liter engine). I cannot walk straight when I get out of the truck for a while and I have pain in the lower back when I drive it long periods. It really feels like I am sitting on something rather than in a seat. Anyone have the steehorse seats? Any suggestions? I am not going to keep that bench that is for sure.

Question

Which seat are you looking for? I find that the NON-split cloth bench is very back-friendly on road trips. Are you looking to dump your split bench? If so, shoot me an email.

Cool

Does yours have an adjustable lumbar
support? If it doesn't,you can try to find one in a junkyard. might be cheaper than
an aftermarket seat. Mine has the lumbar
option and I almost always have to drive it
long distances. Really reduces the back
pain quite a bit.just a thought.,,,,,,98

BTW,
If you were getting 23-24 mpg then your engine must be the 2.4 litre version... I'd check to see if all the spark plugs are installed.

1. Yes I have the lumbar support and used it quite a bit and tried every position..still not happy.

2. Yes I was really getting 24-25mpg in Canada...our gallon is Imperial not usa so it is bigger by one forth. I just got 750km on my last tank(92liter) with my 5.4l with 4000km on the truck so far. That is 465 miles out of a tank... I have no complaints. That was also going up and down 4-5000 ft mountains..I would have got more (i think) in the praries.

I haven't had any back trouble on long trips with the split bench seat in my truck but when I had my Mustang GT I would have back and leg pain after a long trip I wish I had bucket seats in the truck over the bench for more comfort but the bench seat will do fine for now.

Thumbs up

I have the split bench seat in my SCrew and find it to be very comfortable after two trips of over 800 miles each. The big difference for me seems to be that I also have the six way power driver's seat. This helps me make adjustments as I am driving to stay comfortable. I also find the power pedal adjustment helps me keep my legs in different places, a key for back comfort. I have had lower back pain in the past, and I find the SCrew to be better on my back than my last vehicle, a Nissan Pathfinder.

What's "power pedal adjustment"? Can the gas pedal be adjusted? Dennis

On the 2001 Supercrews there is a switch on the dash that lets you adjust the pedals 2"-3" or so for different height drivers. I believe it is to allow shorter drivers to sit a little farther away from the air bag in case of an accident so they aren't harmed by it.

It is also an option on all 2000-01 150s and up. I think it will be a more widely offered feature in the future. Other companies will copy it, I'm sure.

jimwww,

I too found that my 60/40 seat was only mediocre. I bought my truck in Ontario and in the first week had driven it to Halifax, which was not bad. however a year later when i drove it to vancouver 5500k i found it to be lacking. Lately ive been going back and forth to Edmonton and i find it to be rather uncomfortable. I think the seat is getting packed out a little bit - but with the truck out of warrenty - i am going to look at replacing the drivers portion, or maybe getting a whole new bench.

I wish they had offered the leather bench when i ordered my 99 - but no such luck. The cloth is not bad, but i think the leather would look nice.

Yeah, I thought the seats were hurting my back too. Then I remembered that I'd painted the house, moved three rooms of furniture by myself and did some heavy yard work. Maybe that had something to do with it. I also think switching cars and having my back adjust to the new seats played a role......maybe it IS the seats.....
