Stong coolant smell

Have been noticing a coolant smell in the cab lately which is defintely getting stronger. No obvious leak or strong smell is noted in the engine compartment so I am beginning to believe that the heater core or heater valve may be leaking iside the unit itself. Any ideas on how to confirm or fix this short of a total teardown???? Any repair guides that would show this repair??? Thanks for the help.

Lightbulb

If you turn the temp selector to 'hot' and the fan selector to 'defrost' do you get fog on the inside of the windshield? If so, probably a heater core.

Good luck. Mine is an older model, so heater core was an easy swap. From what I've read here, the newer ones are a real pain in the a$$ to get at.

sounds like your heater core is leaking.

I vote for heater core too. I learned a long time ago that you have to change your coolant every two years. If you don' t the heater core will fail.
