Is it the Compressor?

I have a squealing sound that comes on ONLY with the AC on or with the Defrost on. Of course this sound started after I got my truck back from wrecking it. The body shop guy said that it was the part that rotates the fan or something like that. I can't really remember. Anyway, why didn't they fix that also?...cause it is considered one of those "wear" parts and there was no way of proving that it wasn't squealing before the accident. So my question is.... IS it the compressor? Is this a part that a mechanically inclined person can fix theirselves? If it is the compressor or a part of, do i have to purchase the whole thing?
AC blows cold and seems to work fine. The noise is driving me crazy!

Might be only the clutch hub and/or pulley. Those can be replaced by the "average" shade tree mechanic with the clutch hub being very easy.

If the compressor should need replacement, you'd best refer that repair to someone who is properly trained and who has the correct equipment.
