Warm A/C, overcharged?

a/c has been blowing warm for a while now. it was intermittent. went out for a bit, i would run it and it would blow cold for a week and then go warm again. this cycle repeated a couple times and now it will not blow cold.

went and got a can of r134a for another truck and decided to hook the gauge up to my lower side. first off, the connector wouldn't clip to mine. it fit over but did not actually stay. when i pushed in on it, the gauge spiked to around 100 psi.

i noticed the compressor did not cycle on after i left the truck on with a/c running max for at least 5 minutes. also, everything worked fine with the gauge and what not on the other truck.

my question is, is it possible for a gauge to read more than the actual pressure? if it is, is my only option to take the truck somewhere and have the system evacuated/flushed? i have no way of checking the high side.

Unless you have added r134a in the past then I cannot see how you would be overcharged. The compressor not kicking on seems odd. Are you sure your actuator isn't bad? It could be that the actuator has failed and your blend door is stuck in the heat position not allowing your ac to come on. It is pretty easy to get to and easy enough to check. Remove the actuator from the bottom of your dash (through your glove box opening) and watch the actuator when you turn the blend knob from hot to cold. If the actuator arm doesnt move then that is your problem. It is a $49 part and easy enough to install. Good luck!

i bought the truck used, it was 3 years old. i have no idea of maintenance or anything done on it by the previous owner.

the air doesn't blow HOT. the heater works fine and will cook you out of the truck if you are not careful. it just seems the air coming from the vents is ambient temp with the a/c on and all the way on cold.
