No floor vent.

1997 f150 4.2l v6. You can direct the vents to ANYTHING except the floor. I've checked the connections of the vac lines from the switch to the damper. I can watch the damper move when I change settings, including when I move it to floor. Only think I can think of is the damper is actually broke inside. I've done some searching here, but not found this situation yet. Is there anyway of telling what position the damper is in? Is there any way of setting it to midway between defrost and heat? I need some quick help as I am leaving for deer camp Friday morning (yeah!). Would be nice not to freeze my toes off before I get out hunting and freeze my toes off.

On the 97, the actuator is immediately to the right of the top of the gas pedal. Look for the blue and yellow vacuum lines that plug into it (facing towards the firewall).

The blue line should have vacuum on it whenever OFF or any option the includes FLOOR is selected. The yellow line should have vacuum on it whenever the selector is in OFF or FLOOR.

To gain full access to the vacuum motor, remove the black shroud that covers the plenum, the right instrument panel brace, and the floor duct.
