Talking 2001 Radio Volume Control Problems

I have a 2001 Lariat Crew Cab 4x4 that is having radio volume control issues for a few years now. Whenever I try to turn the volume down it goes up! If I turn the knob real slow it seems to work better. The cold affects it more and once it is warmed up the problem is more manageable. Is there a fix or a cleaning that can be done to fix this? I thought I remembered reading somewhere that cleaning the potentiometer can fix this but I don't know where or how to do this. Thanks for any advice.

My 2001 is doing the exact same thing. Cold does seem to effect it more, after it warms up it works fine. Hope someone can offer advise.

haha potentiometer...my favorite car audio word.

Get a new headunit. You cant try and take your radio apart and clean it, but there is no guarantee that its going to do any good.
