amp/sub problems!

I just recently picked up a Clarion MAX675vd and everytime i put a cd in it reads as a dvd. i talked with a guy i work with and he says his does that too...and he knows way more than me about audio systems. and i know it shouldn't do that cause i can do a systems check on the unit and it has cd player listed. and another thing is that i only have bass from my subs from the radio. i've tried moving the rca's to every jack in the back of the headunit, and nothing is working on my cd's. would it be because they are listed as a dvd? im waiting on my ipod harness so, as long as it works there i'm good. but anything that anyone has seen that could help would be greatly appreaciated.
