2008 factory head unit in 2004 F150, no illumination

I upgraded the head unit in my 2004 F150 (new style) with a 6CD head unit from a 2008 (8L1T-18C815). It has one 24 pin connector just like the 2004 model, plugs in fine and the radio and cd player functions perfectly. The illumination of the buttons does not work. I checked the pinout of the 2004 and pin 3 is illum + and 4 is illum -, and I have 12V there. Is it possible that the 2008 unit has the illumination on a different pin or does anyone have a recommendation? Thanks.

those trucks shouldnt have different pinouts at all seeing as they both take the same wiring harness for aftermarket replacement.

I've heard they switched something in 2006. I know the plugs are slightly different on 06+ (Maybe it's 07+). I can't remember exactly what changed, but I definitely remember reading about it when I was getting info when I switched mine out.

I also heard that pre 2006 need to be programed by a dealer and post 2006 do not.

My truck (2008) came with the stock am/fm. I bought a brand new stock single cd and it plugged in and works without issue.

Nope...the Scosche FDK11B is the harness for all 04-08 F150's. The only thing that has changed is the antenna connection. Ford went from using the normal standard antenna connection to the stupid mini chrysler style antenna connection.

I put an 08 f150 stock single cd deck in my 05 f150 for aesthetic reasons (chrome rings on the knobs) and it works flawlessly. As stated, only change was the antenna plug.
