I have a 2001 Screw which I have had many years. Love my truck. And it has been good to me.
BUT with that said the last few days it had laid down on me.
My radio (Standard 1 cd AM/FM setup) has stopped working. There is a station # in the dash, but no sound. When I try to change the volume the volume bar does not go up or down.
With all that said I ask one of my buddies who does car work if he had a ford radio that I could swap out. He did. He has a 2000 Mercury Navigator (I think. Something that looks like an Explorer.) with a AM/FM 6 CD Changer that he caid I could have if I replaced the raido with my old one because the Navigator is going to the salvage yard.
My question is...What am I looking at in this change? Will my Screw have the wiring already there for the changer? How much of a deal is it to find the mount for the changer in the console? Will the wiring be there behind the radio for the changer?
OK, I have answered my own questions. There was no pigtail for the CD changer. I thought about ripping the one from the Navigator out, but would have had to remove a whole lot and didn't want to overstep my bounds when the guy was giving me the radio and changer.
Anyone know where I can get the cable from the radio to the changer?
Is there a reason you want to keep it stock? You can buy a much better head unit with HD radio built in or Ipod controls or bluetooth for less than $150. You'll get a better quality sound, more features and you can add any mp3 player. You can search for radios on crutchfield.com but you can find it cheaper on other sites.

Don't need fancy. All I do is listen to country music and football games. Stock radios seem to be all I need. Do not have a MP3 player and my handsfree kit has Bluetooth.
That is easier said than done. If I had known it was going to be this hard and expensive to get a cable I would have got that one today no matter how long it took!

Spent 2 hours at my buddies place and come up empty. Best I could do is get the plugs off the ends. The harness went back to the front of the console and then plugged into a very large plug with wires coming from everywhere. Then the top side of that plug went into the back part of the dash somewhere. I tried to follow it but just could not do it without tearing into the dash. As the Naviagator was already sold to a junk yard I could not do that.

Aviator is the equivalent to Explorer

There are tons of factory take offs on ebay and craigslist. I would avoid junk yards just because they usually end up with a lot of water and moisture in the cars from missing windows and doors etc. I dont know about you, but i prefer my electrical equipment to stay dry
