Pioneer AVIC D3 vs. AVIC f700bt

I found on ebay a few pretty good prices for these and i was wondering if anyone on here has had experience with either one of these? ive heard good things about both i was just wondering which one was a better overall product for the money. Right now the d3 is going anywhere around 400 and the f700bt ive found for around 500. Is the extra hundred worth it or should i stick with the d3? thanks guys

I agree with GCW, I had a D3 in my old 05 then my 08 I put a F90BT and the ipod function on this one kicks ass! The D3 you had to modify you ipod so it would read correctly the F series you don't do ****, copy from itunes onto ipod and upload. I made the mistake of tying a Kenwood DNX6140 in the Cobra, it's faster than the F-series and the garmin interface is dummy proof but the ipod took me back to my D3 days! CRAP! Pioneer has their new series out to which I really want but I just bought this damn Kenwood. Pioneer FTW!

The bluetooth in the 700 is worth the hundred bucks itself.

I had the AVIC-F700BT and it wasn't a bad headunit at all. The first batch had their issues as always but Pioneer was able to straighten it out for the most part with the 2.0 upgrade -- I think they even have a 3.0 or 3.01 that you can purchase from them to turn an F series into an X series. The biggest complaint with all the new Pioneer units is the boot-up time. You can figure 35-40 seconds to full-boot (it is a Windows based operating system so that's to be expected). I actually sold my F700BT to get a Kenwood DNX6140 and I absolutely hated the Kenwood. It didn't sound near as good as the Pioneer and the overall user interface is outdated IMO. The only good thing about it was the boot-up time -- lightning fast compared to an F or X series Pioneer.

I sent the DNX6140 back and lucked out on a Pioneer AVIC-X910BT. 6th Avenue Electronics (authorized Pioneer dealer) had a sale going on that required me to email them to get a price and I was able to purchase a brand new X910BT from them for $768 with free shipping. I just finished the install today actually (back-up camera, iPod control wire, and the XM tuner). This unit does seem to load a little faster than the F700BT but the user interface is basically the same with the exception of a few very minor menu changes. Pioneer did update the maps again and change the look of the map screen.

Pro's to the D3:
~ faster boot time
~ plays DVD's
~ bigger screen

Con's to the D3:
~ crappy iPod interface
~ DVD based navigation
~ you'll most likely get outdated maps
~ no bluetooth (I think Pioneer has an external module though)

Pro's to the F700BT:
~ excellent iPod interface
~ very nice user interface
~ you'll get newer maps
~ flash memory navigation
~ built-in bluetooth

Con's to the F700BT:
~ smaller screen
~ slower boot-time
~ no DVD playback

If it were me I would take one of the F-series or X-series units over the D3.

Who needs DVD video when you have the capability for Ipod Video? That right there is why i'll never get a 9 series...go cheap route with the 7 or step it up to a Z...

I don't ever use the DVD player in my truck and probably never will. I had an AVIC-Z1 in my old truck and I don't think I ever popped a DVD into it. I was going with a X710BT myself but I found the X910BT for a really good price. I also like the glossy finish of the X910BT (simply a matter of opinion) and the fact that it has a VSS wire to aid in navigation.

this is an avic-f700bt and it says it plays dvd's but doesnt have dvd playback? i thought these couldnt play dvd's.... is there someway it has been upgraded?

next question, im looking for a pioneer in dash that plays dvd's, has gps (that i dont have to put in a cd for), plays ipod, mp3's, cds, and has wireless bluetooth thingy like the 700. however, im kinda limited to a budget and so far i have around $500 or so to spend on one so help me out! thanks a tun guys in advance.

The 700 can be upgraded to a 900 via software hacks, but that is a factory refurb unit, So that wasnt done. And even if you did upgrade to a 900, it still wouldnt play DVD's if the drive itself is just a CD drive.

To be honest, your going to be hard pressed to find what your looking for for that price. Your best bet is either save up and get what you want, or go somewhere that offers financing.

Jesus, I sound like a salesman. I need to get my ass back into the install bay.

I love my F90BT. I think the use of the DVD function really depends on the person, I have a lot of friends with huge DVD collections so its easier for me just to grab a few movies when I'm about to go on a trip then to rip them on my computer and put them on my ipod. I have my ipod full with music anyway so that isn't even really a option lol

The biggest difference is that the F90BT has 4 volt preouts and the F900BT has 2.2 volt preouts.

The only difference is the F90 says Premier on it, has 4v outputs and it comes included with the $30 iPod cord. I figured if I was going to spend all that money anyway might as well spend the extra $50 and get the top of the line.
