04 to 08 Head Unit

hey guys. i just changed out my 04 head unit for an 08 with the chrome knobs and mp3 functionality. the 04 one sat flush in the center stack but the 08 one is sticking out about a quarter of an inch. it actually doesn't look very good.

does anyone know if they changed the depth of the unit? i pushed it in as far as it would go and screwed it in tight into the same holes and it sticks out past the center stack.

did i do something wrong? i can't imagine why it would be any different than my 04.

Yep. I had the same problem when I went to put an '07 head unit in my '04. Not sure why they would change that. I took the head unit out and set it aside and had planned on drilling new holes in the brackets so I could make it fit right. I ended up getting a new truck shortly after that and sold the head unit without modifying it.

Where did you get your head unit and is it the one with the sub output? I bought an "08 new and now regret not getting the works instead of just the plain changer. What would you guys do? Go with a pioneer touchscreen or try to get an audiophile unit?

I installed an '08 Shaker 500 HU in my '04 screw and the two brackets on both side were set back about a 1/4". I simply removed the brackets being they were only held on with small bolts, but the original HU brackets were rivetted on. I intend relocate the holes in the brackets so I can put them back on. Now if I could only get the factory overhead DVD player to work with the new HU.

I slotted my brackets (08 in an 05) and it sits fine. Just takes a little skill to do, not much.
