Just connect the camera's power lead to any 12 volt source that is switched on/off through the ignition switch.

On my 2005 that could be the cigar lighter or either of the two power points. All three of these are on when the ignition is in acc or on position and turn off when the ignition turns off.

There should also be several other power sources available at the fuse box.

Finished up my install yesterday as well. Almost, anyway. Still waiting for the regulator to clear up the sub-woofer thump and a 'Y' adapter for the antenna so I can plug the HU and the HD radio tuner in at the same time.

Thanks to Low E Red for pointing out that black/pink wire for reverse.

The Powerpoints and Cig lighter are constants. These wires will not work.

Talking Where to locate black/pink wire

Locate 16 pin plug located left side under hood/around or under air filter. It is grey plug.I think the blk/pink is the 13th pin. On my alpine, the wire to hook to this is orange/white. Hope this helps!

I tested it to make sure it came on when in reverse and off again when not.

Here it is with my wire attached.

Maybe I am color blind, but I thought I found this wire, but when i Hooked it up, I got no video. Actually, it acted like my seatbelt was not on. I have a 2004 F150 Super-Crew.

Oops. Had the wrong wire. Found the black/pink wire. I think the other one was purple/pink. It definately gets 12 volts when in reverse and not when not in reverse. I still have no video though. Any ideas?

blk/pink wire

I found it in my 97 lariat just over the emergency brake pedd. I used a voltage tester, peirced it as i moved to reverse,to verify it was the correct wire. Maybe i got lucky, but i just had to cut a little tape to lossen the bundle of wires enough to use a blue wire tapper to tie in the connection.
Hope this helps!

Thanks for this. I had hooked up a etsy rear camera to pioneer x2700bs head unit in my 07 F150 lariat. I hooked the power and ground to my backup light and the video cable through underbody and into cabin but when I put car in reverse the camera would not automatically switch on. Hooking the reverse wire from the head unit to this black wire with a purple stripe completely solved the problem.
