Truck not starting after head unit install

I got a JVC KD R600 and installed it in my truck. I followed all the directions from crutchfield (yes i disconnected the battery). I went to start the truck after installing the radio and it started and ran for like 30 seconds then cut out. tried it again and same thing. disconnected the battery, wiped off the terminal and connector, re connected and tried again. it started and ran, but it idled kinda rough and the voltometer for the battery was flicking around, so i turned it off. any ideas?

Make sure the battery terminals are secure.
