New HU

The UPS man brought me some good stuff today.

I tried to put it in earlier, but was having trouble with the mounting kit. I think the local radio shop gave me the wrong one, but I'm not sure. I'll probably mess with it some more this weekend.

Looks very good! I have the same speakers in my front doors.

I am sure that you will be very happy with it. Where did you get the stuff from?

From what I've read on here and my other forum you'll need to do a little work in the dash to make it work. I'd suggest going back the shop and returning the speakers. The 3-ways is all you need cause you can't hear the super tweeter, just a nice scam for more money. I actually had the 3-ways in my '97 explorer, loved them so much they are now in my '99 F150. Put up some pics when you get it in!

I ordered everything from Amazon.com

The HU was $250 and each pair of speakers was $60. I thought it was a pretty good price for everything. I got the mounting kit attached correctly after messing with it some more. I'll mount everything up tomorrow after work and post some pics.

They should sound pretty good with the JL subs I already have in there.

Here it is installed. I think it looks awesome.

I installed the phone microphone right here.

I'm still getting used to everything and I'm sure there is a lot I haven't found out about it yet, but so far I love it. The new door speakers sound amazing compared to stock and I may have to upgrade my 2 10" subs to 12" in the future.

Nice install fiveoh! If you want to get the microphone out from in front of your message center (I know where you have it, it blocks some of the view of the information from the drivers view point), you could mount it on top of the steering column, that's where I mounted mine. Looks clean and it brings the microphone closer to the driver.

I thought about putting it there, but decided to put it there for now. I might move it later on.

I got this unit for my supercrew about a month ago but never got to install it until today. After getting all the wiring done and just when I tried to mount the unit I discovered that there was no mounting kit, the manual says to use the factory radio mounting kit but no good. can you help me with the type of mounting kit you used?

BTW that install looks awesome, can't wait to get mine done. Also, I played with the radio and my iPhone and it works great,

Thanks!!

You need Metra Part# 95-5812 for the dash kit to integrate it into the dash like the thread starter did and the Metra part for the wiring harness. Mine was the part w/ the factory sub, so that probably won't do you much good.

My JVC nav unit came with a microphone very similar. I had it down near the ashtray on my FX4 and people weren't hearing me very well. I since moved it up to the very top corner of the windshield. I ran it through the dash, up the A-pillar and then clipped it to the headliner. Everyone can hear me crystal clear now and its all out of the way of everyone and everything.

No problems anymore
