kenwood DNX5120 bypass Q's??

I was told that in order to bypass the HU you simply need to ground the parking brake?
is this true?
anyone have any pics? and/or step-by-step instructions for our 04+ f150's?
BTW the law hasn't passed here in Hawaii so this is legal....for now?!?

thanks in advance for any help!

That is correct, all you need to do is hook up the parking brake wire to the ground wire and you're all set. I have the same head unit and it works great.

Yeah, when you crimp/solder your two grounds together, just throw in the parking break wire. Its pretty simple.

1. GPS will function just the same.

2. No idea on the remote for the double dins, but the ones that come with the single din radios, I can control the radio from about 30 ft away while im on the sales floor as long as I have a direct line of sight.

3. IPOD ftw. The deck will read the thumb drive as a giant CD. I dont beleive you can access folders and playlists on it.

thanks everyone!
recieved my 5120 tuesday(2/17) and the install took me a total of 2 hours!!!!
Thanks to Low_e_red
bypassing the parking brake was easier than wiring the speakers! LITERALLY it was just attaching one green wire to black ground!!!!!!!
I was going to wire in the reverse camera even though i don't have one yet but the tech at crutchfield had a hard time describing where to locate the proper wire???
I'll do that later when i actually have the camera!
i probably spent 1 of the 2 hours trying to flush mount the HU..LOL

also...
Does anyone else experience humm vibes when playing DVD's?
I'm still trying to figure out how to eliminate the vibes.

Which wire did you have trouble finding? I've got a 5120/ipod adapter/steering wheel controls adapter/sat radio tuner that should arrive tomorrow or Monday. Anxious to do the install. Already have back up camera so I plan to keep it and use the 5120 monitor - thus removing the external 7" monitor I now have.

If it's the wire that turns the camera on automatically when the truck goes into revers I'd like to know where it is too - mine is not currently wired that way.

yah I need to know where to wire in the reverse wire?
I think the guy at crutchfield was telling me I need to tap into the orange and black(?color?) wire located on a 12 pin harness behind the passenger side kick panel. I couldn't find an orange and black wire but then again i gave up after 2-3 minutes of searching at dusk, and i was without a flashlight! so i just wrapped up the rest of the install and decided to wait til i have the actual camera!
I was thinking, it might be easier to tap into the trailer harness apposed to routing 20' of cable under the truck, and into the cab of the truck.(but very questionable due to my lack of knowledge..lol)
but yah that will be at a much later date!
I love my 5120!
and i dunno if anyone else is as anal as me but I before i had the 5120 HU I made my Gryphons color match the gauges and OE HU colors, but now i can make my gryphon and new HU match colors and it more or less drowns out the gauge colors...

EDIT : ADD
there is a feature on the 5120 that allows you to manually use the reverse camera by holding the corrosponding touch key for 3 seconds.

Yeah that's what I do now - just push a button and turn on the monitor when I want to see the camera, but I'd like to have the 5120 set up so it's automatic. Gotta be someone here who knows which wire that is and where.

Of course my 7" monitor also has a remote control and a game chanel with Tetris loaded. Gives you smething to do when stopped for a train or road construction! I'm betting the 5120 doesn't have that.

Uhh, are you serious?!?! Orange/Black?

Try a Black/Lt. Pink low in the DKP. Pull up the sill panel and push back the carpet. You will see a Black Grommet with a ton of wires coming out of it. Its the only Black/Lt. Pink there.

Low_e_red thanks for your help thus far but you'll have to forgive my ignorance!
What is DKP? Door Kick Panel?
and thats black w/pink stripe, yah?
might just tap into that this weekend.

and one last install question for you Low_e,
is it possible to tap into the trailer harness at the rear of the vehicle apposed to running our wiring all the way to the cab?
suggestions? insight? advice?
thanks

DKP I'm guessing is Driver's kick panel and I think you're rght, black with pink stripe.
