Need Dash Kit '05 FX4?

All, new member here. I posted in another thread about baby seats and appreciated the feedback - I dig this forum & the F150-centric feedback y'all are happy to give.

Can anyone tell me whether I need a dash kit for '05 FX4 head? I have a pioneer premier unit to put in, but haven't yet taken possession of my baby. By eye it looks awfully close to the 7" x 2" DIN style (doubled). My experience with Ford has been to expect (and prepare for) the worst, in terms of incompatibility with the aftermarket world... Prob. something readily available at Future Shop or Best Buy, thought I'd check here first.

Ahahahahaha Ford is the most compatible out of any of them. MB/BMW/GM are the worst.

But, if its a single din either Metra 99-5807 or 99-5812
DDin Metra 95-5807 or 95-5812.
Harness is a 70-5520 (w/o audiophile) or 70-5521 (w/ audiophile)

Next time search though, this has been a very covered topic. Welcome to the forum though.

I would def have to agree with you on that, I loved my Ranger, sooo easy to work on, and when I got this truck and found how easy it was as well I was very happy. I have put stereo's in many other brands and I would have to say Ford has been the easiest by far!

Thanks gents, and for the noob patience. It's true, motherlode of good info here.

Looking forward to seeing that you guys are right. My experience with Ford electrical is unlikely to be near yours; I'm sure my issues were more than partially self inflicted.

Got the kit and harness. Work starts tomorrow!

If you run into any problems don't hesitate to ask, I know I have the Crutchfield sheets around here with really good pics and notes on how to do anything with any part of the stereo, if you need me to I'm sure I can find them and e-mail them to you, just let me know...

Ugh GM's. Usually incredibly easy to take a part and a PITA to get to work. Door chimes wired through the stereo? Ugh WTF!

I hear ya, expensive modules and to try to get aftermarket stuff to work with ABS, ONstar, etc is a hassle and pricey.

Thanks Buckeyes. All went well with deck, using dash kit & harness (thanks Low E) so at least I have tunes to the stock speakers for now.

Next phase: I am building a downward-firing box for a 12" Boston Pro LF in the center console. In taking this thing off for recon & measurement purposes, I see the restraint control module directly below it. Obviously I plan to dynamat over the thing, or move it (with reluctance). Does anyone know if the vibrations will affect this unit given the close proximity?
