best double din around $500

Anyone on here have a double din dvd with or without nav that they got or know of for around 500 bucks? I keep seeing that pioneer advertised alot...but it only has a 6.1 screen. I prefer something a little bigger. could you list your pros and cons? thanks.

I got my Pioneer AVIC D3 off ebay for $315 + shipping used and it came with the Blutooth box and Ipod cable . I just bought a backup camera and now I'm all set. The DVD bypass was already done too so the wife can watch DVD's while I'm driving. Honest, I don't look I'ts a sweet setup for the money. Nav is cool but you have to have the DVD in at least till you program your destination. The install was a piece of cake. Hope this helps.

Sweet deal for a D3 but they are hard to come by for that price. Check out the AVH 4000 from pioneer.

And to be honest, you really dont notice the difference between a 6.1 and a 7

i threw one of those into my buddie's car and it's a pretty sick screen. as long as you don't need the navigation it's a good way to go. the screen says 6.1" but really... who cares. the screen is plenty big. you can do a bunch of stuff with it too i.e. sat radio, ipod, dvd etc. i don't think it has sub outputs which is a downer but other than that i don't really have any problems with it.

I finally got a hands on experience for a short time with the pioneer at best buy...but as most of you know, the units in the stores are so worn out or messed up that I was limited...but I did like it. NO SUB PREOUTS?! is this true? and how can I work around that? When I do purchase, It must have DVD, usb expansion wire, IPOD wire, touch-screen...and that about it. Has anyone done the ebrake bypass mod to this unit? I talked to a local installer and he said that it would not be a problem doing...but I know that in some of the newer units, Ive heard different things like a "gyro" sensetive unit and momentary e-brake functions. Im not too sure (just a novice) but anything anyone has to add would be appreciated. thanx

it is true there's no sub outs... this can be worked around with some "Y" adapters but you will not have the same kind of sub quality. it's really up to your ears as to how much of difference you'll notice. the bypass is also incredibly easy! you gotta ground it via a switch and flip on-off-on (with slight pauses on each on so they can "register" with the unit)

the ipod cord you need is $35 (what i've seen) and it's the cd-1200 (or something like that with a c and 1200)

it's a really cool unit but like stated earlier it's up to you as to how much it would hold you back not having any sub pre-outs.....

Hey bud do you have any install picks. I am about to get one of those for my truck. I just need to know what needs to be done in the way of cutting.

I've had an AVIC-Z1 with a 7" screen, an AVIC-D1 with a 6.1" screen, and now an AVIC-F700BT with a 5.8" screen. I've had my AVIC-F700BT in for a while now and haven't been bugged or limited by the screen size at all. Love it!

I'm not sure about the other Pioneer F-series units but I know that my AVIC-F700BT has sub preouts. I'm sure the others do as well because they are basically the same units. The AVIC-F900BT has all of the features you listed plus NAV and bluetooth -- they can be found on eBay for a reasonable price. The bypass mod is easy to do on the new Pioneer units. Simply ground the parking brake wire and move one wire in the wiring harness and ground it as well. Thats it!

I just bought a brand new eclipse avn6620 on ebay from hifiaudioonline. $580 shipped brand new. My local dealership wanted $1400 installed for that same unit. To me thats one of the best out there you can buy at a smokin price.

well, I went with the pioneer avh-p4000 6.1". Its been in now for a little over a month and Im not tired of it yet...I thought I would have problems with it being a 6.1 but I dont mind it at all...very pleased...only one problem with it that probally wont concearn most of you, I live in northern maine (unfortuniatly...millitary) and have recently been noticing that it has problems reading my ipod in cold weather...less than 20 outside (my the truck thermometer) it gets the error message. when it happens, you have to turn off the truck, un-hook the ipod, open your door(shutting off the stereo) close the door, connect the ipod, turn it off when it kickes off, then start the truck and pray it reads. like I said, only in the cold when the unit itself is cold. it says it will operate no problem down to I believe -5 but who knows.

it may just be your ipod, mine don't like cold weather at all, it won't even come on when its freezing outside. I try not to leave it in my truck...but i don't have a good memory haha
