What do you folks know about blauplunkt?

My son just bought a car, and going to Crutchfield, the only receivers that it says will fit are Blauplunkt (sp) Hell, I don't even know if I could spell it correctly! Going to other sites say that Pioneer and others will fit, but I like the fact that Crutchfield sends you everything for what you would pay for the receiver only in other box stores.

What do you guys say about these?

He bought a '99 Olds Cutless with 49,000 miles---got it for three grand. Everything is mint and he is a college student---great milage etc---Crutchfield says Blaupunkt---Circuit City says Pioneers and others will fit. I have always installed myself and used Crutchfield, but I am a Pioneer guy from back into the '70's---What do you think?

What kind of car is it???
Unless the stock radio and mounting for it is shaped like a rainbow or something, most any Single DIN radio should fit with the aid of a mounting kit...there are exceptions though.

As for Blapunkt or however you spell it (I cant spell it either, never cared too)...lets just say there are plenty of other things I would run in my car before one of those....like almost every other brand out there.

Hrmmm....unless that radio and the hole for it are narrower than usual...

Come to think of it, now that I see an exterior picture of that car, Im 99% positive my cousin has that same car...in which a Pioneer single DIN is installed also.

back in the 90's when i used to do a lot of 12 volt installs, a lot of people went out and bought blaupunkt radios.

i was never impressed with them.

i think the name was big only because it was standard equipment in mercedes benz' back in the day.

I love Crutchfield myself and truth be told they are usually correct but everyone makes mistakes. What I would do is give crutchfield a call. I've been dealing with them for years. If need be ask for Conrad. Let us know what happens.

Looks like any other OEM radio so any radio and a install kit will work. Shop at Crutchfield and buy at www.onlinecarstereo.com for much better prices. There are other places but that's who I've been buying from. Personally for a basic radio I don't think anyone beats a Pioneer.

Ya beat me to it. I was trying to post the same thing and my D-----S------L w-a-s g-o-i-n-g s-o-o s-l-o-w I pretty much had to just give up on the internet for awhile. Don't know what's been going on lately.

Anyways tonight I should be taking pictures of a Corvette I did a few weeks ago and I'll post them. I put the Clarion DUZ385SAT radio in it. It is a double din radio that looks very factory. It will take up the full opening of the factory opening and really doesn't draw any attention to it. It features MP3 capability and also a USB port that you can use to play your ipod or just simply plug a 4 gig thumb drive into.

Out of all the radios out there this has been a big seller to my car dealerships and even customers that just want a radio to work good and not scream "steal me"

As far as the Blaupunkt line I kind of like it. I especially like the plug-in-play amplifiers. Ford has actually turned to them for the subwoofer/amplifier add-on market. As far as their radios go they have a strange approach to what comes in a base model radio compared to their competition. To get the same features as a say kenwood, pioneer, clarion, jvc base radio you have to step up a couple models on a blaupunkt which puts them out of the cheap radio market if comparing units. They do make a solid product and the few that I have sold I have never had to warranty.
