I've been installing decks for 14 years now, and feel that I know WTF I'm doing, don't trust anyone else, etc.
Well, I had been running an Alpine 7893 with 14 ga. power straight from the battery, and 14 ga. ground straight to chassis for 5 years without issue. I'm running a sub amp, a pair of components up front with upgraded DD tweeters, and 5x7 co-ax in the rear. Upgraded factory grounds.
All of the sudden this winter I quit getting audio from the door speakers. Sometimes it would come on then get static and fade out till nothing. No dimming issues and the sub amp still had input. I thought it was the internal IC (V-Drive amp) dying so I upgraded to Pioneer's most top of the line Premier headunit.
I installed the new headunit lastnight after checking / cleaning / replacing the fuse at the + battery terminal. I'm confident all my connections are solid. I grounded the head to the chassis as well as through the harness. When I got done I fired it up and did the initial setup which took about 20+ minutes in the garage with the key in the acc position, not running. Everything worked perfectly. Well, I get in the truck this morning to go to work and I got nothing but sub again. WTF!!! I turned if on / off several times and ran back through the setup and only ONCE did it output through the door speakers for about 4 seconds.
Any ideas? All I can think is maybe one of the crossovers or something in my components is dying and the internal amp is shutting off, but I'd think that would just take out that 1 channel. Please, no comments on needing a component amp.

Sounds like you have a grounding problem with your spks.
