iPod Nano install - '05 w/ Audiophile

Now that I've inherited the wife's iPod Nano and got it running in the truck using a Monster radio modulator I of course want the sound to be better and wire it in.
The nice thing about the Nano is that is fits perfectly in the ash tray compartment so having the wires run through there I can close the whole thing up (no wires, no iPod showing). I don't need the full size iPod, 500 songs is fine for me!

Searching the threads am I correct that the '05 6 disc changer HU doesn't have an input? Isn't the Audiophile HU/system supposed to be the top of the line OEM system?

AHAHAHA! Where it may be top of the line everything has a drawback. If you have a 6CD changer there is no input. However, you can go over to best buy and pick up a Metra FM modulator and a 3.5mm > RCA. That will work as good as you can get w/o replacing the deck. All in all approx. $50-60.
Good luck. Pm me if you have any other questions.

Drat. I'm an Alpine fan so presume a high end Alpine would be better than the Audiophile HU. Is there a recommended Alpine model # for high end sound and iPod hook up? Something that looks good (here comes the new alarm!).

I do a lot of long trips dragging a sailboat up and down the coast and I thought the 6 disc would be fine but now that I've seen the light and used the iPod I don't know what I was thinking!

-Cheers,

Chris

Try a wired FM modulator before replacing your HU. Most people find the sound quality acceptable.

Talking

Sorry!

It just cracks me up when I see "iPod", "Nano", "FM Modulator" and "Audiophile" used in the same discussion...

Those are half what I paid for the Monster iPod radio thingy! Don't you still get radio static with those?

I'm leaning towards replacing the HU with an Alpine. W205 looks like a pretty nice unit and can run additional media if needed.

If your deck says MP3 on it, this will work

My '05 6 disc deck doesn't say MP3 on it so it won't work for me.

It also requires a vehicle specific harness for like $20. Hard wired and you can still use your track skip on the steering wheel.

if you have an amp, you could always take out the headunit and wire the nano direct to the amp.

I used a different wired FM modulator with my Sirius PnP tuner and 2003 6-CD changer. It was decent. No static inteferrence becasue there is a relay that connects either the aux input or vehicle antenna, but sound quality wasn't the greatest for the one I had. Worth a try for $25.

I ended up buying an aftermarket MP3 single CD HU w/ aux input for under $115 shipepd including all the adapters/etc. I don't have an Ipod, so the interface/control wasn't important to me.

I have the MP3 option so will look into hard wiring the crutchfield kit. If that isn't satisfactory I'll bite the bullet and get the Alpine W205.

Thanks for the help.

Send a message via AIM to mSaLL150
you should absolutely replace the HU. i had the wired FM modulator and the radio static killed the quality, not to mention there was volume loss. now i have very simple ipod navigatio nthrough my pioneer HU, and sound quality is unmatched. way better then stock.
