D3, Amp and 'Bows all working perfectly

It was rough, but I got the SLC 265s in the front, KX 165s in the back, my Avic-D3 up and running with the iPod connector and the Kicker ZX 700.5 pushing it all nicely.

I had a hick-up with the remote turn on lead, but after reviewing what Bartak told me already, I accepted the doufus award and rewired to the blue and white "remote system" wire vs. the blue "power antenna" wire.

I ran into a problem with wiring the front speakers and couldn't get to the door harnesses without breaking them. So I went ghetto and drilled a hole in the door jamb, put a grommet in it and made a small slice in the bottom of the boot in the jamp and piped the wire through. Doesn't look super clean, but doesn't look to bad either.

The Avic works nicely. I got to go through all the buttons and get my EQ set, but I'm impressed with the functions so far. I got all sorts of videos on my iPod so DVDs and CDs aren't a problem with the Navi set-up. The bypass is definitely a must and was easy to do. I got to work on getting my backgrounds on the unit and get my sub and box ordered up. But everything is wired and ready to go. The seat even fits over the amp.

Thanks for all the help and if anyone runs into a problem, I can now be of some sort of assistance.

I have a D3 sitting at the house waiting to be installed.

Couple of questions.

#1. What year is your truck? Mine is an 05.

#2. What wire did you hook the pink spped wire up to? Is it the grey/black wire in PIN 14 on the factory harness?

#3. Did you hook up a rear view camera? If so, where did you tie that wire in?

#4. Are you aware of the bypass set up? It allows for several features to operate while moving where they would not under the standard hook up. This one I happen to know in case you don't.

I have an '04, but I believe most of the wiring, if not all, is the same.

I hooked up the speed wire to the grey/black in the factory harness. Didn't even need the super-dooper long extension that is supplied.

I didn't hook up any rear camera, just the iPod connector.

And the bypass was super easy. I searched around on Avic411.com and found a few with pictures that were simple to follow and execute. Only took me about two mintues to actually complete.

One thing I didn't notice is how bad the quality of some MP3's are out of the iPod. I thought I blew a speaker when listening to one song. Then I popped in a few CDs and after some careful evaluation, cranked the volume and was in ear-ringing bliss. I can only imagine the quality of a higher-end set of Rainbows or the Hertz MLK 165s or Morel's.

Get to installing the D3 and have some fun with it all.

Thanks for the info! I am waiting on one more part. The CBTB200 for the bluetooth is on backorder. I don't want to have to take everything back out to hook it up. Hopefully it will be here soon!!

Thanks again.

There are a butt-ton of wires that will be hanging off the back side of the D3. Zip ties are your friend once you get everything soldered/connected. And make sure the adapter that holds the unit in place is level and even to the trim piece for that surrounds the head unit and HVAC controls. Mine is about two millimeters off and is driving me nuts. I'll be pulling it out again to fix that problem.

When moving up into the upper realms of drivers they tend to bring out alot of imperfections on recordings. This is of course a good thing, except for the rearranging of your media.

Glad your enjoying the 'bows.
