Just a quick addendum to the master sheet: in the illustration, it shows a guy using a prybar to remove the radio trim panel, but if possible I would avoid using one as they leave nasty scratches most of the time.

The easiest, and least damaging way, to remove the panel is by simply opening the cup holder below the panel, reaching up underneath, grabbing hold of the panel and gently but firmly pulling it off one clip at a time. Use both hands, and pull it off straight, working from bottom to top. I've pulled mine off six times now, and have not damaged it once doing it this way, but when I had an autostart installed last Christmas, the shop used a prybar and left some nasty gashes on the upper corner of the passenger side, both on the trim itself and the surrounding dash. Needless to say, I bitched something fierce, and when they tried to tell me it was unavoidable, I took the owner outside and showed him how fast and easily I could remove it with just my two hands. To the guy's credit, he knocked half the price of the remote starter off, but everytime I notice the gashes it bothers me.

Anyhoo, most people aren't as sensitive to such things as I am probably (this is the first truck I have ever owned outright on my own, it's my baby) but using the two handed method is faster and easier on your dash. One last thing: if you're going to be installing other modules like sat radio recievers etc, it's easier to just remove the whole panel by carefully unlatching the wires for the passenger airbag, and the climate controls. A lot of people say to just leave the trim panel hanging, but it just gets in the way. If you're just swapping in a new HU though, just undo the airbag light and let the panel hang... it's only going to be off for the 20 minutes it takes you to remove the stock HU and bolt in the new aftermarket mounting kit anyway. Make sure that airbag light wire is properly secured though when you put it all back together, otherwise the airbag system fault light will stay on in your instrument panel, and you'll have to pull the trim all over again.
