New double din dvd player in a 01 screw

Okay so my factory radio died on me and there was no way i was putting a single din into that huge spot. So after a few hours of cutting, fabricating, and a little praying I got my new Panasonic CQ-VD6503U installed in the dash. And for anyone thinking of tackling this project, I just want to warn ya that it takes some cutting lol. I'll try and post pictures tomorrow.

Why would you need to cut when a install kit works just fine? Hopefully in cut you mean the kit and not the truck.. lol

I would really like to see a pic of this because my radio/CD is dead (my third factory unit) and I hate the thought of a tiy CD player in that huge spot.

How much did it cost and how much effort did it take? Thanks.

on the 01 you have to cut some plastic out from behind where the factory player was. On the new gen trucks this isn't an issue, but the older the factory cd player is only a single din once you get about an 1" or so back.

No, on an 01 you will need to cut some plastic out of the area behind and above the old radio for a true double din to fit. The 01 was not a full double din radio opening.

Yes I put a factory 6-disc in my '01 Supercrew and had to cut to get it to fit. I too would like a COOL double din touch screen with Navi. etc. Lets see the pics.

factory 6-disc

Mine came out of an '02 Ranger Edge. Direct plug and play. But had to cut the back of the dash.
