Man this is such a personal pref kind of question. The best thing you can do is go around to the different shops and take a look at everything yourself. Play with the controls, look at the specs, ask the professionals, ask friends.
It's really all subjective... for instance: Specs wise, Pioneer makes a great deck, but personally I can't stand the design or control scheme. One big knob that is essentially worthless while you're driving, which causes your hand to block the screen anytime you use it because some genius decided it was better to put the screen on the passenger side then the driver side.
Me, I love Alpine products, but last year they decided to turn their single din units into cheap pieces of cr*p in an attempt to lower the overall price. Not a smart move, in my opinion. On the other hand, their double din units are fan-freaking-tastic, and much better priced then competetive models from other brands. IWA-200 is an awesome DVD/CD/MP3/WMA/AAC/DVD Audio playing deck, but on the downside, it doesn't have a built in EQ. Why? Who the heck knows, frankly it makes no sense. Most stereos are like this, in the sense that they all have pros and cons. The trick is to find the one that has the most pros but the least cons, in your opinion, which as I said is subjective.
