Replaced Stock Head Unit in 06 supercrew and now gas gauge does not work

I went to a reputable audio shop, where the dealership sends all of there audio and aftermarket dvd stuff. I had them install an alpine dropdown dvd system for the 2nd row and had them replace the stock head unit with an alpine system so that the dvd system would be hard wired and not need an fm modulator and also a hard wired ipod connections that I would not need an fm modulator but once I picked the truck up the gas gauge was at e and I have more than half a tank.

I then went and filled the tank needed 9 gallons and the guage still measured e.

I talked to the guys at the audio shop and they said there is nothing that they would have close to touching that would impact the gas gauge.

The audio shop said take it to the dealership and send them the bill, but if I could tell the guys at the audio shop this is probably where you need to double check a particular connection that would be great.

What would cause the gas gauge to read e when full, also I went to the dealership and they said bring it back on Monday but it is probably just a sending unit they are having the same problems on some mustangs, but it would really be a coincidence it was working before I took it to the audio shop.

since your fuse box is on the passenger side i bet they grabbed a power or ground that they werent suppose to. you need to make them uninstall the system and see ifd it works then.

Thanks for the reply.

I have never installed a head unit but wouldnt the power or ground all come from the wiring harness? Do they also just grab an available power or ground, do you think it was done during the install of the head unit or the install of the overhead dvd player for the overhead dvd player I believe they just they use the power from the overhead light in the cab.

alot of audio shops just tap in to whatever they can find. Looked behind my headunit the other day and my factory wiring harness was hacked to hell. I would have them uninstall the unit like ONE04FX4 said.

Thanks for the replies I will check that out, but if they did use a wiring harness for the f150 wouldnt that have power and ground for them so they would need to grab just any random power or ground, wouldn't everything thye needed to install the new radio be in the wiring harness for the new head unit?
