MP3-iPod in 01 with stock single CD HU?

I've searched archives for an hour and got more confused.

I have an 01 XLT with the stock basic AM/FM/CD unit. This is a single CD, not a changer. What are the choices for connecting an MP3 or iPod while keeping this stock HU?

Thanks.

I went to Best Buy and looked around with the same question. If your head unit has controls for an external CD changer, you can do it. The control for the ipod is limited. If it's controls for a 6 disk changer, you can make 6 playlists on the ipod and choose between them, that's about it. And it was going to cost over $100 for the cable that plugs in where the changer normally would, the other end to the ipod. I thought it was too costly, and started looking at replacement head units instead.

I'm not sure if those have any external inputs (line-in's) but if it does you just have to pick up the right wires and connect it. Im not sure about the stock head units though....I have an alpine headunit installed and it has external ins so i just had to buy the alpine cord it needs and a y cord and i can hook it up directly. But if you have no external inputs then i dunno...you will either have to use to crappy tape method and run it into the tape deck through one of those cd tape cord deals....or buy a wireless deal that just uses a radio station to tune it in, but i dont like either of those methods...easiest way to find out is just pull the stock head unit out and see if its got inputs. Hope that helps.

I have been using a FM transmitter to connect my ipod with my stock 2002 HU.
It has worked extremely well , sounds good and plugs right into the lighter.
