2004 aux input harness or new HU

I own a 2004 F-150 Lariat (New body style) with the in dash 6 cd changer stock Head Unit. I want to connect an external sound source to the auxiliary input of this Head Unit. I have looked everywhere for the appropriate harness but I can’t find one. Does this part exist or do I have to change the Head Unit.

If I have to change the Head Unit, what is a good one (not super expensive), and will I need a harness to make the buttons on the steering wheel work?

Thanks.

This may be what you are looking for.

A lot of people on here have installed them. You may want to do a search in the 2004 - Present forum for more info from others that have installled it.

Thanks for the reply. However, I don't think that adapter will work because my cd changer and HU are the same unit. There is no cd changer connection.

Looks like I will have to change the HU as the harness apparently doesn't exist. This problem only affects the Lariat's as they are the only ones with the in dash 6 cd changer.

Actually, I think if you pull your radio out and look at the back of it, you will see an unused 16 pin connection in the back of the radio. That is the connection that the adapter plugs in to. I believe there are many people on here with the in dash 6 cd changer that has added this adapter to their radio. You may want to check before you go out and buy another head unit, unless your set on buying another head unit.

No, I'm not set on getting a new HU. I'd actually prefer to leave things stock.

Is it easy to get the HU out or do I have to remove the dash?

I also have an 04 Lariat w/6 disk cd player. That adapter works.

The head unit is easy to remove. The trim surrounding it pulls off. Start at the bottom above your ashtray and pull straight out and then just work your way up to the top. you will have to unplug the airbag light and climate control wires to completely remove the trim, but it is very easy. Hope this helps!

Like mrkwns said. It is pretty easy to remove. Just follow his instructions.

Here is a link to some photos of how to remove it as well.

Actually, now that I think about it, you will not see a place to plug the P.I.E. unit into the head unit. That is because you have to unplug the smaller of the two harnesses on the back of the head unit and plug it into the P.I.E. and then plug the P.I.E. into the head unit.

Install is a simple procedure though, and you should have no problems.

Thanks for the info. I'll give it a try.

What does the smaller harness do? If I unplug it to install the PIE adapter, what features am I going to lose?

I didn't lose any features. You plug the harness that you disconnect from the head unit into the adapter, which in turn plugs into the head unit.

If your Aux input doesnt do anything now, then you shouldn't lose anything. I think the Aux input was intended to be used with a rear seat dvd setup, so if you dont have one of those, you should be ok.

Ok, how about this. I have an 05 Audiphile with DVD package. I also have an AUX button on the head unit that when pressed does nothing(DVD is a seperate function). Would this adapter allow me to have a real AUX input and keep the DVD functions?

So what you gentlemen are saying is that these adapters will allow me to use my "line in" option off my aux button for my Ipod? My head unit has siruis satellite radio, am I going to loose this option w/ these adapters? The sales people at Crutchfield said I would loose my Sat radio so I'm just confirming. My Aux switches me from FM to Siruis.
