how hard is it to install a new HU and sirius tuner?
i have never installed a radio in a vehicle and am wondering how hard it is for a person to install a new headunit with the sirius add on tuner...here is what i am getting.
JVC KD AR870
SIR-JVC1 SIRIUS TUNER (WHERE DO I MOUNT THIS???)
AND THE DASH KIT AND WIRING HARNESS.
I dont think it will be dificult to install, only hard part is going to be installing the sirius tuner i think. does the sirius tuner need to be powered seperatly or does it just plug into the headunit? where do i mount the sirius tuner box???????has anyone done this type of install? if so please give me some instructions and pointers. again, i have never installed an aftermarket radio.
by the way if anyone is interested in the jvc headunit, you can get it for $85 bucks shipped from overstock.com. this unit has one of the best sirius displays i have seen in a single din headunit. i will take pics of the install when im done.

thanks.
I have that exact setup in my F150 right now. The install is super easy. Just run your sirius antenna first, that will be your hardest part. Mine comes into the cab through the third brake light and then over the head liner to the door. From there it runs inside the weather stripping to the side of the dash where it them runs in and behind the glove box to the radio cavity. I took my sirius tuner and tied it to one of the supports for the dash over next to the steering column. It doesn't move and it out of the way if i decide to add on the ipod adapter later. The tuner pulls its power from the head unit so you just have that one cable to connect up besides your antenna. Best of luck with your install and you'll love that head unit and tuner combo. The display kicks ass on it.
ya, it has one of the best displays i have seen yet for a single din radio. i think it will look good in my truck. i was trying to find pics of it installed in a 04-present F-150..

i run out and snap some pictures of it when i get home tonight so you can see it installed, but i won't be able to pop open the dash to show you where the tuner is. but it does look really good in there.
I was looking to get that radio this week. I'm glad you stopped by to remind me about overstock.com. For that price I can put one in the truck and one in the work car and still pocket some money.
I just recently (2 weeks ago) installed a new head unit in my 2000 F150. I had to physically cut out a portion of the plastic behind the factory CD player in order to get it to fit properly.
When i initially installed the new head unit, it was hitting the plastic portion behind the factory unit causing the new unit to bulge out a bit. So I simply took a single hacksaw blade and did some trimming (very careful not to hit any wires)
Worked out great. No vibration or anything of the sort.

i just finished the install and it looks and sounds pretty good. i have a couple questions for you though. when you leave it on sirius and turn off your car, then turn it back on again, do you get a reset message on your headunit? the reset message shows for a second and then sirius starts playing. just curious. i will post pics tomorrow,,,
