Well, I know my Pioneers and Eclipse need to have the remote pointed right at them. With the Pioneer I had in this truck, I could stand behind the truck and point it at the back glass, and SOMETIMES it would work. Dont know the range on the Eclipse remote though, havent tried it.
I think with about any HU you will have to have the remote pointed right at it pretty much though.
There are tons of speakers to choose from too, Diamond isnt to bad of a brand in my book

I think most remotes are infrared, which means that they are line-of-sight.

You would need an RF(radio frequency) remote to accomplish your needs.

Infrared works just like any other (visible) light source, you just can't see it.

Think about the light beam from a flashlight. It can travel very far, and if you aim it at a reflective surface, it will change direction. Infrared works exactly the same way. I have been able to point the remote for my TV towards the back wall of the living room and it still works because the infrared light is reflected off the wall and enough of the light gets to the TV to get the job done.

An RF remote works with radio signals, just like your AM/FM radio or wireless Internet connection. The RF transmitter sends out the signal in all directions at the same time. The receiver just waits for the signal to arrive and then responds. It works more like sound waves.

You don't have to have line of sight to your favorite radio station to hear it, but you do have to have line of sight to see the light from a flashlight pointed at you.

yah ive seen a few HU they installed in older cars on overhauling, where they put the whole HU inside the dash out of site, and just had the remote, and the aux cd changer. the remote was an almost exact copy of the faceplate too!
