odd to me, maybe not to you

so I installed my IVA-w200, 4 infinity reference door speakers, and a 10" RF PS1 to a 2 channel 250w bridged amp.. my sub cuts out at higher volumes due to the protection circuit when I hook the amp up via subwoofer pre-amp outs.. before the IVA-W200 I had just ran my amp off the rear driver side's door speaker via speaker level input.. so after the sub starts cutting out with the new headunit, I try sending the signal to the speaker level input like before vs. the sub pre-outs on the new headunit, and i get WAY more output from the sub. it also no longer cuts out at the same volumes as it did with the sub pre-outs.. anyone know why this is and if it's hurting anything?

maybe just because the signal from the speakers have a higher gain level than the pre-outs?
