trying to install aftermarket HU on a 06

I have the bracket and adapters but the freakin antenna has me stuck. I disconnected the antenna from factory radio and the cable has this black plastic piece on the cable. Also the antenna cable doesn't look like i can plug it into anything cept the OEM radio. Is this normal or did i break something

I've searched the forums and didn't find any threads about this. I'm assuming I will need an adapter but can't find a definate part. Can anyone educate me on this?

Send a message via AIM to TXST8tj
just go to the install shop at BB or CC and ask for the antenna adapter for your model year.

dumb specification/clarification: model year of just the truck, correct? Will the antenna adapter fit all aftermarket headunits? My HU hasn't arrived yet, but I'm trying to get all the extra items I may need before i start the install. Do most aftermarket HU's need this adapter? thanks

I was talking to the guy at BB and do not have much faith that he knows anything. I wanted to know if it is normal for the antenna cable to have the black plastic thing around it. I never seen a factory antenna cable look like this.

I guess I'll be hitting the BB or car audio place today.

The antenna adapter is common. Metra makes them. Any installer that knows what hes doing will be able to tell you which one you need. I think you can even find it metra.com

peace

thanks. It sucks when you think a straight foward HU install goes f'd up because of a antenna adapter. I took the radio out of my explorer which had a normal antenna plug to this crap. live and learn, i guess
