Install Kit for '98

I just installed an Alpine std. DIN sized head unit in my '98. I used a Metra dash kit and it doesn't look good. There are gaps between the top of the kit and the trim, the right side, and the radio and trim. It also isn't flush with the AC controls. Overall, a very poor fitting kit.
Anyone have any better luck with Scoche or AI? I'll probably replace the dash kit, I just want to pick one that's going to look better. Thanks.

Really?

I have a 98 and my metra dash kit fits fine. You have the oval-rectangle part on the top right?

Yep, the oval pocket is on top. But, I tried it on both ways.
There is about 1/4" gap between the top and the dash trim piece. I can stick the tip of my finger in. It makes the whole install look amateur.

I swung by Best Buy and they were out of stock of the AI kits they usually sell. At least I can try and return that one if it doesn't fit nice.
